I’ll be honest – when I first booked Acropolis Ancient World – 5 minutes from subway and Acropolis Museum, I was a bit skeptical about the name (it’s quite a mouthful, isn’t it?). But after spending three nights there last spring, I actually get why they went with something so descriptive. You literally step out the front door and you’re practically breathing the same air as ancient philosophers – well, sort of.

The location is what really makes this place shine. I mean, you know how some hotels claim they’re “close” to attractions and then you end up walking for twenty minutes? Not here. The Acropolis Museum is genuinely a five-minute stroll, and I timed it because I’m that person. The metro station is even closer – actually saved me a fortune on taxis since you can zip around Athens so easily from there. What I really appreciated though was how the hotel sits on this quieter side street, so you’re not dealing with the tourist chaos at all hours. The mornings were particularly peaceful; I’d grab coffee from the little café next door (the owner speaks perfect English and makes killer Greek coffee) and just watch the neighborhood wake up.

The rooms themselves feel fresh and modern without trying too hard to be trendy. My room had this huge window that faced toward the Acropolis – not a full view, mind you, but you could catch glimpses of it between the buildings, especially at sunset. The bed was genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about mattresses), and the air conditioning actually worked, which honestly can’t be said for every place in Athens during summer. One small thing that stuck with me: the shower had fantastic water pressure. Sounds silly, but after long days of walking around ancient ruins, it was exactly what I needed. The staff at reception were the kind of people who remember your name and actually seem happy to help – the evening desk clerk gave me the best restaurant recommendation I got during my entire trip, this tiny taverna about ten minutes away that I never would’ve found otherwise. The 9.9 rating makes total sense once you stay here; it’s not flashy or over-the-top luxury, but everything just works the way it should.

  A great apartment in the heart of the Koukaki neighborhood. We found in the apartment everything you could ask for and even a small souvenir from Athens. There is an elevator in the building. The apartment is a short walking distance of a few minutes from the famous sites of Athens: Acropolis Hill, Acropolis Museum, the Plaka and more. There is also a metro station nearby. There is no doubt that on our next visit to Athens we will book the same apartment again. Thank's John

  First and foremost our host, John, was an excellent host. He was readily available to address any questions/concerns that we had. Upon arriving at the apartment, we felt expected and welcomed. The apartment was spotless and very well-equipped and configured. John thought of everything to make us feel comfortable! The location was wonderful. Many local restaurants to enjoy and very easy to get to the Acropolis and the metro. We would stay at John's apartment any time we are Athens again and highly recommend it to others.
