ASIMINA apartment, Kerameikos Metro Station Overview
Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about ASIMINA apartment near Kerameikos Metro Station, I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mean, Kerameikos isn’t exactly the postcard-pretty part of Athens that everyone talks about. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are in these slightly off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods, and this place absolutely proved that point.
The apartment itself is actually really well done – clean lines, modern fixtures, and honestly better WiFi than most places I’ve stayed in Greece (which, let’s face it, can be hit or miss). What struck me right away was how quiet it was, considering you’re literally a few minutes’ walk from the metro. The owners clearly put thought into soundproofing, which is huge if you’re planning to use that metro line to get around the city. And speaking of the metro – Kerameikos station is on the blue line, so you’re looking at maybe 10 minutes to Syntagma Square, which makes getting to the tourist spots pretty painless.
Here’s what I really appreciated though: the neighborhood vibe is completely different from staying in Plaka or Monastiraki where you’re surrounded by tourist restaurants and souvenir shops. Walk five minutes from the apartment and you’ll find these little tavernas where locals actually eat – I’m talking about places where the menu isn’t translated into five languages and the owner’s grandmother is still making the dolmades. There’s this bakery on Pireos Street (you’ll smell it before you see it) that does these incredible cheese pies that became my breakfast routine. The area gets a bit industrial as you head toward the main roads, sure, but it’s got this authentic working Athens feel that you miss when you stay in the more polished parts of the city. Plus, parking is actually doable here if you’re crazy enough to rent a car in Athens – though honestly, with the metro right there, why would you torture yourself with Athens traffic? The only minor thing is that late-night food options are a bit limited compared to the central areas, but the trade-off is you’re getting way better value and a genuine feel for how Athenians actually live. With a 9.7 rating, this place clearly knows what it’s doing.
