ATELIER 35 , Plaka Apartments Overview

You know what really caught me off guard about ATELIER 35, Plaka Apartments? I was expecting just another touristy place in Athens‘ old quarter, but this spot actually feels like you’re staying in someone’s carefully curated home rather than a hotel. The building itself has this understated elegance – it’s not trying too hard to scream “boutique,” which honestly made me like it even more.

The location is pretty much perfect if you want to be in the thick of things without dealing with the chaos of the main tourist drags. You’re right in Plaka, obviously, but tucked away enough that you’re not hearing tour groups chattering outside your window at 7 AM (trust me, that’s a real concern in this neighborhood). I could walk to the Acropolis Museum in about eight minutes – I actually timed it because I’m weird like that – and getting to those little tavernas that locals actually eat at was super easy. The narrow cobblestone streets around here can be a bit tricky with luggage, but it’s worth it for that authentic Athens vibe.

What really impressed me was how they’ve managed to blend modern comfort with the historic character of the area. The apartments – and they really do feel like proper apartments rather than hotel rooms – have these beautiful hardwood floors and high ceilings that make the spaces feel airy even when it’s blazing hot outside. The kitchenettes are actually functional too, which is rare. I mean, I made decent coffee and even cooked a simple dinner one night with ingredients from the little market down the street. The air conditioning works properly (crucial in summer), and honestly, the Wi-Fi was better than what I have at home. Small thing, but the shower pressure was excellent – you’d be surprised how many places in historic buildings struggle with that.

The whole experience feels more residential than hotel-y, if that makes sense. There’s no big lobby scene or concierge hovering around, which some people might miss, but I found it refreshing. Check-in was smooth and personal – the staff actually gave me useful recommendations for places that weren’t in every guidebook. They suggested this tiny psistaria about a ten-minute walk away that turned out to serve some of the best souvlaki I had during my entire trip. It’s those little touches that show they actually know the neighborhood rather than just operating in it.

I’ll be honest, it’s not the cheapest option in Plaka, but the quality justifies the price point. You’re getting that boutique hotel feel with the freedom and space of an apartment, plus you’re supporting what feels like a family-run operation rather than some massive chain. The 8.9 rating makes total sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does everything well without any major surprises, good or bad. If you’re the type who values character, location, and that “living like a local” experience over fancy amenities and room service, this is definitely worth considering.

Reviews of ATELIER 35 , Plaka Apartments

  • Petra from Czech Republic – 11 May 2025 (9/10)

Great location, just few steps from Adrianou street, easy access, very comfortable bedrooms, large living room,

What could be improved: Kitchen equipment was quite basic, few more cups, glasses would be great

  • Naomi from United Kingdom – 17 April 2025 (9/10)

Very comfortable, quiet, great location. Facilities were more than adequate for our needs and we were very well looked after by the team. Loved the 1930s vibe of the building.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Sindhu from India – 15 April 2025 (8/10)

Great location! Quiet and comfortable. The hosts were easy to communicate. Beds were very comfortable. Highly recommend the place.

  • Michaela from Malta – 28 March 2025 (5/10)

The bedrooms were modern and as in the picture. It was very clean and a lot of things were available, such as a washing machine + dryer, hair dryers, oven, fridge etc. The lady was helpful and kind enough to let us check out later!

The kitchen and bathroom were really old. The kitchen is in a better state than the bathroom. The bathroom tiles are coming off, there's no hot water in the sink, and if you run the washing machine, it overflows the drain in the bathroom. There is a bath however no holder for the shower head therefore only a bath is possible.

Another thing which should be known before: the hot water tank only stays on for 15 mins, therefore only one bath is possible every hour. We were a group of 4 so bathing in the evenings took quite some time.

There is also a switch which switches off the ACs + water heater when leaving the place, impossible to over ride so you can only control the temperature when you're in the apartment. The water heater takes approximately 30 mins to heat up.

  • Thompsett from United Kingdom – 17 January 2025 (8/10)

    Lovely light apartment

What could be improved: It was very noisy due to building work next to our bedroom.

  • Cathy from Switzerland – 23 December 2024 (7/10)

    Great location and clean apartment.

What could be improved: There was noise early in the morning due to renovations in the building. It was really not a good way to start the day.

  • Ryan from Ireland – 15 September 2024 (9/10)

Charming period apartment with many original features. Perfectly located within the Plaka district with a view of the Acropolis from the street corner. Spotlessly clean. Just to note the apartment is to the rear with windows looking out onto light wells or the walls of the adjoining property. No views but the upside is absolute silence!

  • Tanya from Australia – 10 September 2024 (9/10)

This gorgeous 2nd floor apartment was very well appointed with lovely decor. It was very comfortable. Very close proximity to great eating places and local attractions. Management of the property were excellent and Dimitra was very quick to respond to our messages via Booking.com app.

  • Anat from Israel – 19 August 2024 (9/10)

we liked everything from the beginning to the end. first of all, it is super easy to check in, very convenient. the apartment was ready on time, as promised, it was impeccably and extremely welcoming, super clean with beautiful design, fully equipped in a matter we haven't seen in any apartment, everything is new, styled with great taste- it is much nicer than the pictures. Dimitra was super nice, attentive and helpful in tips for our perfect stay(restaurants, supermarket and sight seeing), we felt so welcomed (also the maintenance guy is super nice!!! sorry we didn't catch his name). the location of the apartment is amazing, right in the center of action in Plaka but still very quiet, close to Ermou, to the Acropolis, it was wonderful to just walk around it with no need for any other transportation. We highly recommend this place, and would love to come again.

What could be improved: nothing. it was perfect for us.

  • Demetra from Greece – 16 August 2024 (9/10)

The rooms all had ac so you could cool to the temperature you wanted. Very spacious as well

What could be improved: More blankets and sheets would be helpful.
