You know what struck me first about Athenian Riviera Hotel & Suites? It’s got that perfect balance between feeling upscale without being stuffy – something a lot of four-star places struggle with, honestly. I mean, when you walk into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense that they actually care about the details, but it doesn’t feel like they’re trying too hard to impress you.

The suites themselves are where this place really shines. I’ve stayed in plenty of hotels that call themselves “suites” and basically give you a room with a mini-fridge, but these are actually spacious. The living areas have these comfortable seating arrangements that you’ll actually want to use (not just for dumping your shopping bags), and the kitchenettes are surprisingly well-equipped. What I really appreciated was the soundproofing – you can barely hear the street noise, which is saying something in this part of Athens. The housekeeping staff clearly takes pride in their work too; everything was spotless, and they even folded my scattered clothes into neat little piles without me asking.

The location is honestly brilliant, though you might not realize it at first glance. You’re close enough to the action that you can easily get to the main archaeological sites and that whole touristy Plaka area, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with crowds of cruise ship passengers right outside your door. There’s this excellent little taverna just two blocks down that locals actually frequent – not the kind of place you’d find in guidebooks, but the kind where the owner remembers your order after one visit. The hotel staff (and they seem to genuinely know the area, not just recite rehearsed recommendations) pointed me toward some fantastic spots I never would have discovered otherwise. Parking can be a bit tricky in the immediate area, but the hotel has arrangements with a nearby garage that makes it manageable. Check-in was refreshingly quick, and the front desk folks speak excellent English without making you feel like an inconvenience. That 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve spent a few nights here – it’s the kind of place where small thoughtful touches add up to something really comfortable.

  The hotel is modern and our room was very spacious with a large balcony, the location is decent if you are interested to be walking distance (15-20min) from lake vouliagmeni or the nearby beaches

  The room was spacious and had a balcony. We were lucky to get upgraded to the fantastic family suite. I love the area and the beach. You can go to the centre of Athens in about 35 minutes for about 40 euros. We will be back at this hotel.
