IPELHOME – Plaka Boutique Apartments Overview

Look, I’ve stayed in plenty of places around Athens, but IPELHOME – Plaka Boutique Apartments honestly surprised me in the best way possible. You know how sometimes you book a place and cross your fingers it’ll match the photos? Well, this one actually exceeded them. The moment I walked into my apartment, I got that “okay, I made the right choice” feeling – everything felt thoughtfully designed without being stuffy or overdone.

What really struck me about this place is how they’ve managed to capture that authentic Plaka neighborhood vibe while still giving you all the modern comforts you actually want. I mean, we’re talking about staying in one of Athens’ most historic areas here, where you can literally hear the morning conversations from the local kafeneio drifting up through your windows. The apartments themselves have this perfect balance – traditional Greek touches that don’t feel forced, paired with kitchens that actually work and bathrooms where you won’t bump your elbows. The bed was genuinely comfortable too, which honestly isn’t something I take for granted anymore after years of travel disappointments.

The location is where IPELHOME really shines though. You’re right in the heart of Plaka, which means you can stumble out your door and be wandering cobblestone streets lined with bougainvillea within seconds. The Acropolis is so close you’ll probably get tired of photographing it (just kidding, you won’t). But here’s what the guidebooks don’t tell you – you’re also perfectly positioned to duck away from the tourist crowds when you need a breather. There’s this little taverna just around the corner that serves the most incredible horiatiki, and a tiny grocery store where the owner will practice his English with you while you buy morning coffee supplies. The area does get lively in the evenings – that’s part of Plaka’s charm – but the apartments are well-insulated enough that you can actually sleep. Check-in was refreshingly straightforward too; none of that awkward hunting around for a hidden lockbox or waiting around for someone who may or may not show up. They clearly know what they’re doing here, and it shows in those little details that make a 9.5 rating feel completely justified.

The staff at IPELHOME – Plaka were amazing. Nothing was too much of a problem for them and they were so helpful with answering any of our questions or concerns. They have an office on the ground floor and always greeted us with a smile and asked us how our day was. Chris let us leave our bags as we arrived so early due to early cruise ship departure and made sure our room was ready by 1pm. He advised us to try local bistro for breakfast which proved to be wholesome. The Plaka area is quite pretty and very touristy so lots of shops to visit while waiting.

When we got to the room, we found out that they have given us a free upgrade to one with two wonderful balconies and some lovely gifts including coffee pods and some special things which I won’t mention to ruin future surprises for people planning to say there.

We did have some issues with the radiator the first night but they promptly called the technician who fixed it the next day. We used the AC that night and kept our room warm (Athens went down to around 6C that night so it was great to have the backup). The room has automated sensors and a touchpad which took a bit of getting used to. Local things to do, useful places to visit including supermarket info were all in the guest room guide as well as provided by the helpful staff.

All the kitchenette facilities, fridge, room and bed were great. There was an excellent kettle and Nespresso machine which did a great job! Wifi worked great. Room could be serviced each day if required.

There are plenty of power points. Shower was awesome with plenty of hot water.

The Plaka area is quiet at night so we found it easy to sleep with all windows having blinds/shutters.

Recommended for the brilliant amenities and closeness to Plaka and more importantly – The Acropolis and all the local ruins and museums! And the brilliant staff – who did remind us that Athens was a paradise on Earth!
