La casa di Plaka Overview
You know what really caught me off guard about La casa di Plaka? It’s tucked away in one of those narrow side streets where you’d never think to look for a hotel, but honestly, that’s exactly what makes it work. I mean, Plaka can get pretty touristy during the day with all the souvenir shops and restaurant touts, but once you slip into this place, there’s this immediate sense of calm that settles over you.
The building itself has that weathered charm you get with older Greek properties – thick stone walls that actually keep things cool during those brutal August afternoons, and these gorgeous traditional touches that don’t feel forced or overly restored. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. You’re still close enough to wander down to Monastiraki for dinner (maybe a five-minute walk?), but you won’t have drunk backpackers stumbling past your window at 3 AM like you would closer to the main square. The staff genuinely seems to know the neighborhood – not just the obvious tourist spots, but they pointed me toward this little taverna where locals actually eat, tucked behind the Cathedral. That kind of insider knowledge you can’t fake.
The rooms are solid four-star territory without trying too hard to impress. Clean lines, decent bathrooms (good water pressure, which honestly matters more than people admit), and the air conditioning actually works properly. I stayed during a particularly hot spell in July, and while the whole city was melting, my room stayed comfortable. The only minor thing – and this is pretty typical for older buildings in this area – is that WiFi can be a bit spotty in some corners, but it’s fine for checking emails and uploading photos. What really sold me was stepping out in the early morning before the tour groups arrive. There’s something magical about having those ancient cobblestone streets mostly to yourself, grabbing coffee from the corner kafeneio while the city slowly wakes up. The location puts you right in the heart of historic Athens without the chaos – you can walk to the Acropolis in about ten minutes, but you’re also perfectly positioned to explore the real neighborhood life that happens between the monuments. For the price point and that 8.1 rating, it delivers exactly what you’d hope for without any nasty surprises.

We spent three nights in the apartment. It's in a well maintained old building. Being an apartment, we appreciated the separate lounge room, bedroom and kitchen. The kitchen provided basic equipment/utensils. There was even a washing machine if you could figure out how to use it. The host provided some water/tea/coffee/milk. My husband liked the supplied toothbrushes and access to Netflix. We had some issues with the wifi (very jet-lagged) but got it working with help from our host. The information sheet about where to eat and shop was very thoughtful. What was missing was the location of the local grocery store. We chose the apartment because of its perfect location – Plaka restaurants, Melina Mercouri Monument (meeting point for many tours) and Hadrian's Arch were just around the corner. The Acropolis, Syntagma and the Parliament House were in walkable proximity. Because it is situated at the edge of Plaka, taxis could mostly access the apartment easily (not have to travel through the congested narrow streets). We often got picked up/dropped off at the monument to avoid traffic congestion.

The location is perfect! So very close to the ancient Athens sites and well as modern restaurants and shops. Communication with owner was clear and they were quick to respond. Flat itself is clean and comfy. It was a very pleasant stay.

Amazing location in one of the oldest areas of Athens. Very close to the Acropolis and Monastiriki square. The apartment is exactly how I imagine the locals stay in Athens. It has a washing machine, iron, balcony. Great neighbourhood and good communication from the host.

The location is incredible, right at the heart of Plaka. The hosts very really friendly even if we didn't meet in person, communication was great.

We had a real problem at arrival. The contact number on booking.com was incorrect. We eventually found the number but had to ask someone who spoke Greek to talk on our behalf. Eventually a lovely assistant came to let us in – we felt they had forgottern we were coming.

Lovely roomy apartment in a great area on the edge of Plaka. Just a few minutes walk from lots of great restaurants. Washing machine a bonus.

The location was excellent, close to restaurants, and in an area lovely to walk around. The flat was clean and we appreciated the tea and coffee.
