You know what caught me off guard about Silk Mill Leonnatou, Athens Centre? The name actually makes perfect sense once you’re standing in the lobby. There’s this industrial-chic thing happening here that feels deliberate but not overdone – exposed brick in some spots, these gorgeous high ceilings that hint at the building’s manufacturing past, and honestly, it works better than I expected it would. I mean, Athens has so many cookie-cutter hotels trying to be everything to everyone, but this place seems to know exactly what it is.

The location is what really sold me though. You’re right in the thick of things without being on one of those crazy busy streets where you can’t sleep because of the traffic. I could walk to most of the spots I wanted to hit – Monastiraki is maybe ten minutes if you’re not rushing, and you can actually reach the Acropolis on foot (though fair warning, it’s uphill and Athens hills are no joke in summer). What I loved is that you’re close enough to duck back for a quick break during those brutal afternoon hours when the sun’s just punishing. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel too – there’s a little bakery around the corner where the owner definitely doesn’t speak English but somehow we managed to communicate about which pastries were fresh, and that’s the kind of authentic Athens experience you’re really looking for, right?

The rooms themselves are solid – I’d call it upscale without being stuffy. The 4-star rating feels accurate, maybe even modest. My shower had actual water pressure (not always a given in older European buildings), and the AC worked like a dream, which honestly saved my life during that heat wave in July. The 8.4 rating makes sense to me because while everything works well and the staff genuinely seems to care, it’s not trying to be the Ritz. There were a few tiny things – the WiFi got a bit spotty on the higher floors, and check-in took longer than I’d hoped because they only had one person working the desk when I arrived. But these are the kind of minor details that only bug you if you’re already stressed. The breakfast spread was better than expected (actual Greek yogurt, not the weird hotel version), and they had this little courtyard area where you could sit with your coffee in the morning before the city really wakes up. If you’re looking for that sweet spot between authentic Athens character and modern comfort, this place delivers without making you pay resort prices for the privilege.

  Good overall – Hosts were prompt to answer to any difficulty – I would use again and I would recommend. The area is certainly a bit run down but the prices balances it out. Easily reachable by taxi and close to the centre.
  
  What could be improved: The beds, the mattresses could have been better in this regard they were thin – the same could be said of the sofa which had broken legs supported by books in place. The apartment had only a few shortcomings but important ones. The owners prompt response and efforts to assist were very positive.

  What could be improved: Lokalizacja obiektu w dość nieprzyjemnej okolicy, wyposażenie mieszkania dość symboliczne – jedna łyżeczka do herbaty, brak ostrego noża, a piekarnik wyglądał jakby miał się zaraz rozlecieć.

  Zeer vriendelijke host, reageert snel op berichten. Fraai en ruim appartement en overal dichtbij, vrijwel alles was op loopafstand. Alles zag er netjes uit en fijn dat er twee balkons waren.
  
  What could be improved: In de buurt van het appartement veel zwervers, junks en prostituees. We hebben een paar keer de buren gehoord die schreeuwden en/of met meubelen gingen slepen. Vervelend, maar dit was duidelijk incidenteel.

  Μοντέρνο και ευρύχωρο διαμέρισμα. Ήταν πολύ φωτεινό και καθαρό.

  What could be improved: Θα μπορούσε να διαθέτει κάποια βασικά προϊόντα όπως σαπούνι πιάτων, σαπούνι χεριών.
  Η περιοχή δεν είναι η καλύτερη της Αθήνας, ωστόσο νιώσαμε ασφάλεια.
