Look, I’ve stayed at a lot of places in Athens, but Splash Of Glam I 10 steps from Acropolis actually lives up to its name – well, mostly. When they say 10 steps from the Acropolis, they’re being a bit cheeky (it’s more like a very quick walk), but honestly? You can practically roll out of bed and be at the entrance to one of the world’s most iconic sites. I mean, I’ve had hotel rooms with worse views of parking lots back home.

The place has this boutique feel that surprised me – you know how some 4-star hotels can feel a bit sterile? This one doesn’t. There’s actually some personality in the design choices, though I’ll admit the “glam” part is more understated than over-the-top. The staff genuinely seemed to know the neighborhood inside and out, which was refreshing. They steered me away from the obvious tourist traps (you know, the ones right at the base of the Acropolis hill where a gyro costs €15) and pointed me toward this little taverna about three blocks down where locals actually eat. The rooms are well-appointed – good air conditioning, which you’ll absolutely need in summer, and the Wi-Fi actually works consistently, unlike some places I’ve stayed in this part of the city.

What really sold me on this place was the morning routine. You can grab coffee from their breakfast setup, step outside, and watch the early morning light hit the Parthenon before the tour groups descend. There’s something almost surreal about having that view basically to yourself at 7 AM, then seeing the same spot packed with people by 10. The location means you’re right in the thick of Plaka’s winding streets, but the hotel itself sits just enough off the main drag that you’re not dealing with street noise all night. I actually slept pretty well, which – given that I’m usually a light sleeper in new places – says something. The 9.0 rating makes sense when you factor in that combination of location, comfort, and the fact that the staff clearly cares about what they’re doing. It’s not perfect (the elevator is tiny, and good luck if you’re traveling with massive suitcases), but for experiencing Athens with the Acropolis as your backyard? Yeah, I’d book it again.
