The Athens History Overview
When I first walked into The Athens History, I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect from the name – I mean, half the hotels in this city could call themselves that, right? But you know what, this place actually lives up to it in ways that surprised me. The lobby has this wonderful mix of old Athens character with modern touches that don’t feel forced or touristy. There’s original stonework that they’ve preserved beautifully, and you can tell someone put real thought into how to blend the historical elements with contemporary comfort.
What really got me was how the staff seemed to genuinely know the neighborhood – not just the obvious tourist spots everyone mentions. The front desk manager (I think her name was Maria?) told me about this little bakery two streets over that opens at 6 AM and makes the most incredible tiropita. She was right, by the way. The rooms themselves are well-appointed without being flashy – good linens, proper air conditioning that actually works (trust me, this matters in Athens summers), and windows that open if you prefer fresh air. I stayed on the third floor and it was surprisingly quiet at night, even though we’re in the city center. The WiFi was solid throughout my stay, which honestly can be hit or miss in some of these older buildings.
Here’s the thing about this hotel’s location – it’s positioned in one of those spots where you’re close enough to walk to the major sites, but you’re not dealing with the constant crowds and noise of the main tourist drags. I could stroll to the National Archaeological Museum in about fifteen minutes, and the metro station is just a few blocks away when you want to venture further out. The 8.9 rating makes total sense to me because while it’s not trying to be ultra-luxurious (and the prices reflect that), everything works the way it should. Check-in was smooth, the elevator runs quietly, and the breakfast – well, it’s not fancy but they do a proper Greek coffee and the fruit is actually fresh. I stayed there during shoulder season in October, and the place had a nice energy without being overwhelmed with tour groups. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels authentically Athenian without sacrificing modern amenities, this is honestly one of the better four-star options I’ve found in the city.
Hotels in Athens offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this ancient metropolis, with easy access to world-class museums, archaeological sites, and bustling markets.

The proximity to most of the historical sites and restaurants and shopping is fantastic. The apartment faces a park and is very quiet but walking distance to everything. It was clean and nicely furnished. It was perfect for what we needed.

The location was excellent. Close to the key features of central Athens including the Acropolis and the Agora – all within easy walking distance, as were restaurants and supermarkets. Each room had air-con, a must for Athens summer.

Location was perfect
Shaun from United Kingdom (9/10)
It was in an excellent location for visiting all of the tourist sights in Athens. It was perfect for a family of five, enabling our three teenage children to have their own rooms, and own TV. Great communications from the agency, and we loved that they provided some essentials.

Classic Greek apartment in excellent location – within walking distance of historic area, flea market and restaurants. This traditional apartment has modern split unit a/cs in every room. Quiet rooms and comfortable beds offer excellent sleep! No need to open windows. Modern bathrooms complete a real Greek experience. Kitchen has everything you need. On a car free street next to a grassy park makes for a serene stay. Neighborhood regulations require no loud talking after 11 pm. Although Google will take you to the back side street, it is possible for taxis to pull up front. Property manager is very responsive. 😃
