Thiseio 1915 Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Thiseio 1915, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a place with such a specific name. But after staying there, I totally get it. The hotel sits in one of Athens‘ most underrated neighborhoods, and honestly, the location couldn’t be better if you want to feel like you’re actually living in the city rather than just passing through. Thiseio has this incredible mix of ancient ruins and modern Greek life that you don’t find in the touristy areas around Plaka. You’re literally walking distance from the Ancient Agora – and I mean actually walking distance, not the “short walk” that ends up being 20 minutes uphill.
The building itself has this wonderful sense of history (hence the 1915, I’m guessing), but they’ve renovated it in a way that feels fresh without being sterile. The rooms are what I’d call thoughtfully designed – nothing flashy, but everything works exactly as it should. The bathrooms actually have decent water pressure, which anyone who’s traveled in Greece will appreciate, and the beds are firm enough that you won’t wake up feeling like you slept on a cloud made of marshmallows. What really impressed me was how quiet it stays at night, even though you’re in a pretty lively part of the city. The windows do their job, and the street itself doesn’t get the same foot traffic as some of the main drags nearby.
You know what really sets this place apart though? The staff genuinely knows the neighborhood. Not in that rehearsed concierge way, but like they actually live here and can tell you which taverna has the best moussaka (it’s the tiny place two blocks down with no sign in English) or when the best time is to visit the nearby archaeological sites without fighting crowds. The breakfast situation is solid – nothing fancy, but proper Greek yogurt with local honey and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since morning. I stayed there in late spring, and the small terrace area was perfect for planning the day without feeling rushed. The 9.4 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be the fanciest hotel in Athens, but everything they do, they do really well. If you want to explore beyond the typical tourist circuit and still have a comfortable base to come back to, this is exactly the kind of place you’re looking for.
To book a hotel in Athens during major archaeological events, travelers need early planning as this cradle of democracy draws visitors eager to experience its iconic Acropolis and vibrant Mediterranean culture.

Location was superb. Acropolis 10min walk away. Great restaurants at end of street. Convenience store and lovely little bakery were 5 min walk.
Acropolis metro station short walk away so access to Pireus and airport was very easy.

Fabulous Accommodations! We asked to move to the apartment with the sauna/steam room shower for fun, a slight upgrade and it was approved immediately. Fran the owner responded quickly to any of our questions and even suggested multiple places to dine or dance the night away. We also booked the studio and every amenity was thought of in the studio as well. We could not of been happier with our choice of the Thiseio 1915 and you will too if you decide to stay here, we will definitely be back to stay there if we return to Athens in the future!

This is a wonderful central apartment! We stayed in ‘Harmonia’ which was perfect for our family of four. The apartment was clean, well maintained and thoughtfully decorated. It had a full kitchen, washing machine, a full and half bathroom too (so convenient). We actually spent more time in this apartment than planned because of the intense daytime heat but it was absolutely perfect on so many things. Located 1-2 minutes walk to multiple great restaurants. Small grocery store nearby which was well stocked with a surprisingly great variety. Amazing view of acropolis from rooftop patio. Walking distance to all popular downtown attractions and surrounded by historical sites/parks.

Our stay at Thiseio 1915 was beyond amazing!
The location is perhaps one of the best in Athens. You just go for a walk and you get a close view of so many ancient monuments. The neighborhood is beautiful & quiet & there are so many places for food just around the corner.
The room was unbelievably spacious and everything in it was so well thought and designed with a ton of amenities provided.
The couch and the beds were beyond comfortable. There were so many spare towels, sheets & blankets. Loved the lights & the combinations we could use so that we could work or just chill. Super enjoyed the sauna as well.
We also had access to 3 different terraces, with the top one to provide a great view to the Acropolis. Metro stations of Thiseio & Monastiraki were at walking distance.
The hosts were also great. Super friendly & helpful & really fast in their response for any requests we had.Stephen from United States of America (10/10)
Stayed in the ground floor Superior Studio that actually included a separate living area. The apartment was immaculate and had everything you could every want in a stay. The location was fabulous. The roof top balcony had a lovely view of the Acropolis at night. For breakfast, visit the Thiseio Bakery about 3 blocks away. It was fabulous. We loved our stay and can't wait to go back.
