The four-star property has this understated elegance that I actually prefer over some of the more ostentatious places downtown. It’s the kind of place where thoughtful design choices matter more than grand gestures, offering sophisticated comfort without unnecessary extravagance.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about this spot — you’re close enough to everything that matters, but far enough away that you won’t be dealing with crowds of tourists stumbling past your window at 2 AM. The area around Portarias is genuinely residential, which means you’ll see how Athenians actually live. There’s free parking right on site, which is honestly a godsend if you’re planning to explore beyond the city center. Finding parking in Athens can be a nightmare, so this alone makes Vamelon worth considering. The neighborhood offers authentic local experiences without the typical tourist trappings, giving you genuine insight into daily Greek life.

The Room Experience

My room was clean and well-appointed — nothing groundbreaking, but everything worked exactly as it should. The air conditioning actually keeps things cool, and the Wi-Fi is reliable throughout the building. What struck me most was the attention to small details — good lighting for reading, enough outlets near the bed, and blackout curtains that actually block out the morning sun when you want to sleep in. These practical touches make a real difference in your daily comfort. The furnishings are modern and functional, creating a pleasant atmosphere for relaxation after exploring the city.

Dining & Neighborhood Eats

While Vamelon doesn’t have its own restaurant, the neighborhood more than makes up for it. There’s a fantastic taverna just two blocks away where locals actually eat — not the touristy places with English menus and inflated prices. The hotel staff pointed me toward a bakery around the corner that does incredible spanakopita, and there’s a small market nearby for picking up essentials. Eating where the locals go is often the best way to experience a city’s true culinary character. The variety of authentic dining options within walking distance ensures you’ll never run out of delicious choices.

  On the 1st day we had the penthouse, insanely beautiful. In the middle of the city (5 minutes from the metro that brought us to Plaka). A penthouse with everything on it. An incredibly large roof terrace where it was wonderful to stay. An elevator in the complex made it complete. We will definitely come back here again!
