Acropolis Hill House Overview

Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much when I first climbed up to Acropolis Hill House – you know how these hill locations can be, all promise and no delivery. But this place actually surprised me in the best way possible. The walk up isn’t terrible (though your calves might disagree after a day of sightseeing), and once you’re there, you get why they picked this spot. You can literally see the Acropolis from most rooms, and I mean really see it – not some distant glimpse you need to squint for.

What struck me right away was how quiet it gets at night up there. During the day you’ll hear the usual Athens buzz floating up from below, but evenings have this almost village-like calm that’s pretty rare in the city center. The rooms themselves feel more like a boutique guesthouse than a typical hotel – there’s character in the details, weathered stone that looks authentic rather than artificially aged. The breakfast area overlooks the city, and honestly, I found myself lingering there way longer than planned just watching Athens wake up. The staff knows the neighborhood inside and out too, which matters more than you’d think. They steered me toward this tiny taverna about ten minutes down the hill that I never would’ve found otherwise – the kind of place where locals actually eat.

I’ll be straight with you though – this isn’t the spot if you want to stumble back from Psyrri at 2 AM without breaking a sweat. The location means you’re committed to either a decent walk or grabbing a taxi for the nightlife areas. But for everything else? You’re actually better positioned than most hotels. The ancient sites are right there, the Plaka is an easy stroll, and you avoid the tourist crush that hits the flat areas around Monastiraki. I stayed here in late September when Athens still had that lingering summer heat, and the elevation made a real difference – there’s usually a breeze up there that the lower areas don’t get. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and they were flexible about storing bags after checkout while I wandered around my last day. For a 4-star place, it punches above its weight – that 9.5 rating isn’t just people being generous. It’s the kind of spot where small touches add up to something that feels genuinely Greek rather than generically Mediterranean, if that makes sense.

The location is amazing. The space is a really good size and the view is incredible. If I went back to Athens I would stay here again.

    What could be improved: Nothing

  • Stephen from United Kingdom – 19 May 2025 (9/10)

Location superb for Acropolis and main tourist areas of Athens.
Accommodation is excellent, very clean and well equipped with fantastic rooftop terrace with views of the Acropolis.
Lovely touch from the host leaving basic essentials – including a bottle of wine.

  • Vicki from Australia – 13 May 2025 (10/10)

What a location. Great area, able to walk everywhere. Spotless and well appointed. No negatives at all.

  • Lise from United Kingdom – 5 April 2025 (9/10)

Great location close to the centre, clean and provided a good selection of breakfast options.

What could be improved: Excellent host, very responsive and helpful.

  • Brinda from United Kingdom – 24 February 2025 (9/10)

The apartment was in a superb location just a short walk to the Acropolis. You can see it from the balcony. It was clean, quiet and well equipped (kitchen with generous fridge, nespresso machine, electric kettle, dishwasher; washer dryer in the bathroom); clean shower with lots of hot water. Our host was very considerate leaving some fruit, coffee and tea, sugar and salt; I appreciated the dishwasher tablets and laundry detergent pods in jars. Beds were clean and comfortable. There’s a convenience store downstairs and a lovely cafe around the corner. Easy access to the Metro.

  • Muhammad from New Zealand – 2 February 2025 (9/10)

Nice and tidy apartment, good bathroom and shower, second room had two single beds,
    excellent location.

What could be improved: No issues.

You could not ask for a better location – the photos do not do the view of the Acropolis justice. We actually stayed in and cooked two nights just so we could enjoy the roof terrace more. Plenty of crockery and pots to stay in and cook. Handy food shops, bakeries and coffee shops within a block.
We had a slight problem with the hot water but Antonia was super friendly and efficient, even getting a plumber on a Saturday. Antonia is very easy to get hold and responds quickly if you have any questions.
Wifi worked well. It was lovely having terraces at the front and the back of the apartment (and the roof), we could sit in the sun (or not) as we wished.
So handy for all the sights. We loved Athens and this apartment in particular, will definitely be doing a return trip 🙂
Flexible check out if they have no incoming guests and there is a lock box to leave the keys.

What could be improved: Problem with the hot water but as explained above it was dealt with efficiently.

The location was perfect just two streets away from the Acropolis Museum. I had missed this museum on my last trip to Athens in 2019 so it was important to me to visit it. Pleasant restaurants, including one serving breakfast all day, were just steps away. The neighborhood felt safe even late at night. When we passed each other, the neighbors in the building greeted us. This made us feel welcome. The apartment was spacious and comfortable with large closets. The kitchen was very nicely laid out. There was a nice view of the Parthenon from the bedroom window and the kitchen, and a perfect view from the roof. There was air conditioning, that was not needed in October, but would be sorely needed during the summer months. There was a convenience store on the corner in case you needed to pick up something or wanted a snack. The host supplied four bottles of water for the two of us, a bottle of wine, butter, jam, and bread. Also two bananas and three very good Red Delicious type apples. The bathroom had a supply of shower gel, shampoo, and comfortable towels. There were also dental packets in case you arrived without your toothbrush. I was impressed by this. That was a nice touch, even it rarely used. The apartment was bright — full of natural light.

What could be improved: The electricity went out one morning between 5:00AM and 10:00AM. Upon waking, I worked with the host to resolve the issue quickly. For those who like to sleep late like me, perhaps more shades would have helped so that the lodger can decide at what time to let in the bright natural light.

  • Jon from United Kingdom – 7 October 2024 (10/10)

The location was excellent and the views were as shown on the pictures. The host, Antonia, had left some fruit, bottled water in the fridge, some breakfast items and a bottle of wine for us on arrival, which was very much appreciated. The stairs to the rooftop terrace could be challenging for some people.

    What could be improved: Nothing.

  • Kelly – 10 September 2024 (10/10)

Our stay was absolutely lovely! Close to all major attractions! Clean and modern space, with all the necessities needed for being away from home. The views of Acropolis were AMAZING from both the unit and rooftop terrace. Small market right next door and tons of late night restaurants close by. Our host was very attentive to any questions we had!
Has a small 2 person elevator to use so you do not have to walk up 5 flights of stairs!!
