Artdecoathens Overview

You know what really gets me about Artdecoathens? It’s one of those places that actually lives up to its name – and honestly, that’s rarer than you’d think in Athens. I mean, the city is packed with hotels claiming some kind of design heritage, but this one gets it right from the moment you walk through those beautifully restored doors.

The lobby hits you with this perfect blend of 1930s glamour and modern comfort that doesn’t feel forced or museum-like. There’s something about the way they’ve kept the original terrazzo floors and geometric patterns while adding contemporary touches that just works. The staff – well, they’re genuinely helpful without being overly formal, which I appreciate. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and the woman at the front desk actually gave me solid recommendations for dinner spots that weren’t just the usual tourist traps near the Acropolis.

What really sold me on this place though was the attention to detail in the rooms. The art deco elements aren’t just slapped on as decoration – we’re talking carefully chosen period furniture, those gorgeous curved lines in the headboards, and lighting that creates the right mood without making you squint to read. The bathroom was surprisingly spacious for a 4-star property in this part of the city, and honestly, the shower pressure was better than some 5-star places I’ve stayed at (you know how hit-or-miss that can be in older European buildings). I was on the third floor and it was quiet – no street noise cutting through at night, which is actually pretty impressive considering how lively Athens can get.

The location works really well if you want to explore beyond just the obvious monuments. You’re close enough to walk to the main sites when you feel like it, but you’re also in a neighborhood where actual Athenians live and work. I found this great little coffee place just around the corner that served proper Greek coffee, not the watered-down stuff they serve near Syntagma Square. The area feels safe walking around at night – I’m usually pretty cautious about that sort of thing – and there are enough restaurants and bars nearby that you don’t feel stuck.

What impressed me most was how they’ve managed to create this sophisticated atmosphere without being pretentious about it. The common areas invite you to actually sit and relax rather than just pass through, and there’s this subtle energy that makes you want to dress up a little for dinner. Not in a stuffy way, just… you feel like you’re somewhere special. The 9.6 rating makes sense when you experience it – it’s the kind of place that gets the fundamentals right while adding those extra touches that stick with you. If you’re looking for something with character that doesn’t sacrifice comfort, and you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere that respects both Athens’ history and your need for a genuinely good night’s sleep, this is your spot.

Beautifuly furnished and high quality renovated late 19th century apartment with original period features; tiles, cornicing and windows, etc. Functional amenities with very well equiped kitchen with generous supply of drinks, butter, jam and coffee capuls. Large beautiful bathroom with lots of hot water with nice body soap and shampoo. Centrally located with very good restaurants and bakery in a few mins walk, but still very quiet. The owner was super responsive, even during the pentecost holiday.
