Athens 1890 Hotel & Spa Overview
You know what struck me first about Athens 1890 Hotel & Spa? The moment you step inside, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually cared about preserving something authentic here. I mean, sure, it’s got that boutique hotel vibe that’s everywhere these days, but this one feels different – like they didn’t just slap some vintage furniture together and call it historic.
The building itself has this incredible character that you can’t fake. Those high ceilings and original architectural details actually tell a story, and honestly, it’s refreshing to stay somewhere in Athens that isn’t trying too hard to be either ultra-modern or tourist-trap traditional. The spa is what really sets this place apart though – and I’m saying this as someone who’s usually skeptical about hotel spas. They’ve got this approach that feels more like a proper Greek wellness experience than just another amenity to tick off a list. The treatments incorporate local ingredients in a way that doesn’t feel gimmicky, and the staff actually knows what they’re talking about when they explain the different options.
What I really appreciate is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between luxury and livability. The rooms are comfortable without being stuffy, and there’s enough space to actually unpack and settle in for a few days. Check-in was surprisingly smooth – no hovering or overly rehearsed welcome speeches, just efficient service from people who seem to genuinely enjoy their jobs. The location works well too; you’re close enough to the main sights that you can walk to most places, but far enough from the tourist chaos that you can actually get some sleep at night. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle in this part of the city, but the hotel staff will point you toward some reliable options nearby. I’d definitely recommend booking directly with them if you can – they seem to have more flexibility with room preferences and timing, plus you get the feeling they’re more invested in making sure your stay goes well. With an 8.3 rating, it’s clearly hitting the mark for most people, and after spending a few nights there, I can see why. It’s one of those places that manages to feel both polished and personal, which is honestly harder to pull off than you’d think.

The hotel was in a great location with a good restaurant onsite. It was an easy walk to sites that we wanted to see. Shopping and restaurants were abundant in the area. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The electricity went off in our room so we called downstairs and an electrician was there within 30 minutes for fix it.
