Athens Destination: a home away from home Overview
You know what really caught me off guard about Athens Destination: a home away from home? The name actually undersells the place – I mean, sure, it feels like home, but honestly, it’s the kind of home you wish you could afford year-round. Walking into the lobby, there’s this immediate sense of calm that washes over you, which is pretty remarkable considering you’re still in the heart of Athens with all its beautiful chaos just outside the doors.
The thing about this place is that it gets the details right in ways that make you think someone who actually travels designed it. The shower pressure is fantastic (and trust me, after a day of climbing up to the Acropolis, you’ll appreciate that), the beds are properly firm without being rock-hard, and – this might sound silly – but the curtains actually block out light completely. I slept better here than I have in months at home. The rooms have this understated elegance that doesn’t scream “look how fancy we are” but just quietly makes everything feel… right. There are these little touches too, like having actual hangers instead of those weird security ones, and enough outlets near the bed that you don’t have to choose between charging your phone and having a bedside lamp.
What really sets this place apart though is the staff – they have this knack for being helpful without hovering, if you know what I mean. The front desk guy (I think his name was Dimitri?) gave me directions to this little taverna that wasn’t in any guidebook but served the best moussaka I had in Athens. Actually, that’s another thing – the location puts you within walking distance of both the touristy spots and the neighborhoods where locals actually hang out. You can stumble back from dinner without needing to figure out the metro system after a few glasses of retsina. The area gets pretty quiet after about 10 PM, which was perfect for me, but if you’re looking for nightlife, you might need to venture out a bit – though honestly, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. With a 9.8 rating, I was expecting it to be good, but sometimes those numbers can be misleading. Not here though. This is one of those rare places where the rating actually reflects the experience, and I found myself already planning my next Athens trip before I’d even checked out.

Sandra from United Kingdom – 18 May 2025 (10/10)
Excellent apartment in a lovely area was immaculately clean and modern with all the little extras provided tea coffee water etc. Great location for access to all restaurants, bars and attractions. Supermarket and coffee bars 2 minutes walk from apartment. The host Sandy was there to greet us and very helpful I asked for recommendations for authentic restaurants and she sent us a list to try. She also arranged transport from airport with Marios lovely guy who was very reliable and we used the taxi service a couple of times. Would highly recommend the apartment and lovely boat Sandy.

A very comfortable apartment, located in a very safe and quiet area of Athens. It was close to most of the atractions in Athens and to a metro station, although you don't need metro, it' s cheap to use Uber. There is a supermarket under the apartment, where you can find all you need. Comfortable beds and pillows, a kitchen were the host left coffee and water for us. Sandy, our host, was very kind and helpfull, she gave us a lot of very good recommendations for restaurants and entertaiment.

Our family of 5 loved our stay in this 2-bedroom unit! We arrived to a spotlessly clean place!
The unit looks like it's newly renovated and is tastefully decorated. The rooms/beds were very comfortable. The kitchen was complete although we didn't do any cooking as there are cafes, bakeries and restaurants nearby.
We would definitely stay here again!
What could be improved: Absolutely nothing!Grainne from United Kingdom – 25 October 2024 (10/10)

Sandy is a great host, friendly and very helpful.
