What struck me right away was how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between feeling like you’re staying in someone’s incredibly stylish apartment and still getting proper hotel service. The penthouse units – and I mean, most of the rooms here feel penthouse-level – have these floor-to-ceiling windows that frame the Acropolis like it’s a piece of art hanging on your wall. I stayed during late spring, and watching the Parthenon change colors as the sun set behind it while sipping wine from the little kitchenette… well, it beats scrolling through Netflix, I can tell you that much. The Lycabettus Hill view from certain rooms is equally spectacular, especially in the early morning when the light hits just right and you can see the chapel perched up there like something out of a postcard.

The 8.9 rating makes perfect sense to me because while everything works beautifully and the design is thoughtful, it’s not precious about itself. There’s something refreshingly unpretentious about the whole experience that captures what I love most about Athens itself.
