I found myself taking different routes each time, sometimes cutting through the narrow streets near Koukaki (which, by the way, has some incredible little tavernas that tourists somehow miss). The whole Makriyanni area has this perfect balance where you’re close enough to all the major sites but far enough from Plaka’s crowds that you can actually breathe.

The hotel itself surprised me – and I’ve stayed in a lot of four-star places that felt more like glorified hostels. This one actually lives up to that 9.5 rating, though I was skeptical at first because those scores can be inflated. The rooms have this modern Greek aesthetic that doesn’t feel forced or themed in an annoying way. Clean lines, good lighting, and – thank god – proper blackout curtains because Athens gets bright early, especially in summer. The AC works well too, which matters more than you’d think when you’re dealing with those August heat waves. I stayed during shoulder season in October, and the staff seemed genuinely relaxed and helpful rather than frazzled, which tells you something about how they manage the place. Check-in was smooth, and they had actual local recommendations instead of just pointing you toward the obvious tourist traps.

What I really appreciated were the small details that show someone’s actually thinking about the guest experience. The shower pressure was excellent – sounds basic, but you’d be amazed how many Athens hotels mess this up. The wifi reached every corner of my room without dropping out. There’s something to be said for a place that gets the fundamentals right before worrying about fancy extras. The neighborhood comes alive in the evenings, especially around Drakou Street, where locals gather at the kafenia and the whole area feels authentically Athenian rather than like a tourist bubble. You’re close enough to walk to the Acropolis Museum in about ten minutes, but you can also hop on the metro and be in Syntagma or Monastiraki without thinking twice about it. I mean, Fix station connects you to both lines you’ll actually use as a visitor, which makes exploring the city feel effortless rather than like a logistics puzzle.

  The location was perfect. Near all public transport and walking distance to all of the major sites in Athens. Close to restaurants, bakeries and cafes. Everything you need is on the doorstep!
  
  The host gave very good directions on how to get there from the port and we were met by Chyssa when we arrived who was delightful, friendly, welcoming and informative.
  
  The apartment is very well appointed with everything you need including a nice balcony and a great kitchen. Beds were comfortable and shower was good. We will definitely stay here again if we return to Athens!

  Very clean, spacious apartment in a very central location a few minutes walk from Fix metro station with access to port, centre and airport (16 euro return on metro). Tram link to beach, marina and city centre. Beds very comfortable. Big balcony. Plenty of hot water and nice shower. Lots of towels provided. All kitchenware you could need. Information booklet left on table with lots of great local info. Air con available. Lovely welcome from Chryssa who showed us around apartment and told us about local restaurants nearby which served fabulous food. Small bakery nearby serving great coffee and baked goods. Convenience shop within 2 mins walk for milk, drinks etc and also selling travel tourist cards for transport.

  Place was lovely and clean, had everything that was needed. Staff were amazing and very accommodating (lift from the airport after massive delays!) I had an unforseen issue with a door and they came out and sorted it straight away. 11/10, definitely would do it again!

  The location was perfect. It is in a quiet neighbourhood but yet very near to everything. Just two or three minutes to the metro and walking distance to many restaurants. The apartment is newly renovated and spacious. Excellent service from George who also did the transfers.
