Look, I’ve stayed at plenty of places in Athens, but Central Apartments in Psiri really surprised me in the best way possible. You know how Psiri used to be this gritty, sort of sketchy neighborhood that locals would warn tourists about? Well, it’s completely transformed – think converted warehouses turned into art galleries, tiny tavernas where you’ll hear more Greek than English, and street art that actually means something to the community. These apartments sit right in the heart of all that energy, and honestly, I can’t imagine a better base for exploring the real Athens.

The building itself feels substantial – none of that flimsy construction you sometimes get with newer places. When I walked into my apartment, the first thing I noticed was how quiet it was despite being surrounded by all the neighborhood buzz. The soundproofing is actually decent, which matters because Psiri comes alive at night (in a good way, but still). The space had this lived-in comfort that made me feel like I was borrowing a friend’s place rather than staying somewhere sterile. I mean, the kitchen wasn’t huge, but it had everything I needed, and there’s something satisfying about making your morning coffee while planning your day in a neighborhood where you can walk to both ancient ruins and cutting-edge galleries. The 4-star rating feels right – it’s polished without being precious about it.

What really sold me on this place was stepping outside each morning and being two minutes from Athinas Street’s controlled chaos, but also a short walk to quieter corners where old-timers still gather for their kafenio conversations. You’ll find the central meat and fish markets just down the way – the kind of sensory overload that makes you feel like you’re experiencing something authentic rather than just checking boxes on a tourist itinerary. And when you want to escape to Monastiraki or Plaka, you’re talking about a 10-minute stroll, not some epic journey involving metro transfers. The area gets busy on weekend nights (there’s a reason it’s become Athens’ creative district), but during the day it has this perfect working-neighborhood rhythm. I actually found myself extending my stay because I kept discovering new spots – that little bookshop that doubles as a wine bar, the souvlaki place that locals line up for but somehow tourists haven’t found yet. With that 8.3 rating, you know other people are figuring out what makes this spot special, but it still feels like you’re in on a secret that the cruise ship crowds haven’t discovered.

  Nice location on the edge of Psyri neighborhood and the surrealistically beautiful Theseo neighborhood. Quite central with Athens’ main sights and neighborhoods accessible by foot. Many options for cafés, bars and restaurants around.

  The apartment is so spacious and comfortable for a family of 4. Andreas went above and beyond to make our stay comfortable.
  
  What could be improved: This has nothing to do with the apartment or the host but the neighbourhood is extremely loud and noisy especially in the late hours. This was the only thing that bothered me during the whole stay. Could not have a proper sleep.

  The location is amazing! Lots of gorgeous graphity works, taverns, shopping – all within minutes away
  .The unit is very well equiped! Easy to prepare a meal, do your laundry, dry your hair, sleep comfortablely, watch a movie even.
  The 10 beds were all made for us in advance!
  The owner was super responsive and helpful with tips on places tomgo, helping with arrangements to transport to the airport… Even after I left and had an issue – he was responsive.
  There's a bathroom at the entrance to the building which is useful! Also luggage storage room on ground level!
  
  What could be improved: The unit we stayed in was on the 3rd floor so a bit difficult for us climbing and taking all the luggage up the stairs. We stayed only 2 nights but had we stayed longer (or packed lighter) it would not have been an issue still worth it, though!
  Also , although the unit is big enough to suit 10.sleepers, having only one bathroom in it is a bit challenging for us. We should have booked another unit. Next time we will.

  Great location, clean and can fit a large group. We also really appreciated the generosity of supplies (e.g. water) given in the fridge

  great location close to everything, very nice apartment, clean & spacious for 4 persons – we had 1B apartment- 2 rooms & 2 double beds, good air conditioning, cold water in the refrigerator
  
  What could be improved: – hot water was a bit of a problem- finished immediately
  – there was a coffee filter and a pack of grounded cofee- still difficult to use, a nespresso would be much more convenient

  The unit was amazingly spacious. Large living/dining room, spacious bedrooms and bathroom and fully appointed kitchen including a full sized fridge, a dishwasher and a washing machine. Kitchen was stocked with staples like oil, vinegar, salt, pepper, coffee, etc. The host was attentive and very easy to get in contact with if we had any questions. His response time was a few minutes if not immediate. Great value for the money. Quite enjoyed the location – quiet yet close to numerous restaurants, shops and the Monastiraki subway station.
  
  What could be improved: We were on an upper floor and so we had to climb 3.5 flights of stairs (no elevator). The furnishings were average yet clean. We were also in one of the units that didn't have much of a view. There were other units in the building with a balcony that faced the street, however, these were more costly – we went for the least expensive unit.
