Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre by IHG Overview
So I’ve stayed at the Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre by IHG a few times now, and honestly, it’s become my go-to whenever I’m in Athens for more than a quick weekend. The thing that struck me first – and still does – is how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between proper luxury and actually feeling comfortable. You know how some five-star places make you feel like you can’t put your feet up? This isn’t one of those.
The location is what really sells it for me, though. You’re literally in the heart of everything without being stuck in tourist chaos. I mean, you can walk to Syntagma Square in maybe ten minutes, but you’re tucked away enough that you’re not dealing with the constant street noise that comes with some of the hotels right on the main drags. The first time I stayed here, I actually got a bit lost trying to find it (classic me), but once you know where it is, you realize how perfectly positioned it is. There’s this great little coffee place around the corner that the locals use – not the overpriced tourist traps – and you’ll find yourself grabbing your morning Greek coffee there instead of paying hotel prices.
What I really appreciate is that the staff actually seems to care about getting things right. Check-in is usually pretty smooth, even when they’re busy, and they remember details from previous stays without making a big show of it. The rooms themselves are spacious by European standards – you can actually open your suitcase without having to climb over it to get to the bathroom. The beds are properly comfortable, not just fancy-looking, and the blackout curtains actually work, which is crucial if you’re dealing with jet lag. The bathrooms are well-designed too, with decent water pressure and those little touches that make you feel like someone thought about how people actually use hotel rooms. I’ve never had issues with noise between rooms, which honestly surprised me given how central the location is. The 8.0 rating feels about right – it’s not perfect, but the things they do well, they do really well. Sometimes the elevators can be a bit slow during busy periods, and the WiFi occasionally hiccups, but these are minor gripes in the grand scheme of things. If you’re looking for a place that feels like a proper retreat after a day of wandering around ancient ruins and crowded markets, this delivers without making you feel like you need to dress up to walk through the lobby.

Reviews of Crowne Plaza Athens City Centre by IHG
Violeta from Netherlands – 9 April 2025 (8/10)
Comfortable, quiet and clean room. Iron board and iron in the room. The shower was good, lights and mirrors for makeup were appreciated. I had a nice city view. The hotel is well-located.
What could be improved: Nothing, the hotel was just ok for my purpose- 3 three-night stays for a conference.Abel from Zimbabwe – 2 January 2025 (9/10)
The support from staff members was exceptional, you only need to visit the hotel
What could be improved: N/AKathryn from United Kingdom – 2 November 2024 (9/10)
Friendly knowledgeable staff who were always willing to help and give advice on how to get about and where to go. Gorgeous breakfast, good quality food and drink with plenty of choice to please all the family. Clean and secure in the rooms and communal areas. Comfy beds.
What could be improved: The shower pointed in an awkward position so we did get the bathroom floor wetter than we should have.Esther from Australia – 11 September 2024 (8/10)
What could be improved: The pool area could be made a little cosier. For example a small tree as focus plant in the middle of the terrace.
There was a smell coming from the cupboard when I opened the doors.Jenny from United Kingdom – 10 September 2024 (7/10)
Friendly staff and great reception area. Offered an upgrade of our room on arrival.
What could be improved: Despite room upgrade, space tight in room for family of 5 – 2 double beds and a small put me up. This was fine for one night though.Mary from United Kingdom – 29 August 2024 (8/10)
Location, roof top swimming pool and the staff within the restaurant when we had breakfast. The staff were extremely helpful.
What could be improved: Room that we were in 322 – was quite dark.
But we did really enjoy our stay.Viki from Israel – 18 August 2024 (9/10)
What could be improved: Small pool,

It is a quiet hotel in a safe location for a first time visitor to Greece. The staff are so helpful and go out of their way to please the customer. J got offered free breakfast which was a pleasant surprise given there is not many options around the hotel.
What could be improved: It may feel a bit distant from center for those who prefer to be in the middle of the bustle; however there is a metro station within 5-7 mins walk.
Given the location, there not many dining options for guests and the room service prices should be slightly kinder.Emma from United Kingdom – 11 August 2024 (8/10)
Good location, great breakfast, helpful staff and good little pool for a dip
Nellie from Denmark – 20 July 2024 (8/10)
Alex at the reception was a great help
