I stumbled upon Heart of Athens Thisio during one of those late-night booking sessions when you’re desperately trying to find something decent in Athens that won’t break the bank. Honestly, I was a bit skeptical at first – you know how these boutique places can be hit or miss – but this one really surprised me. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that someone actually thought about what travelers need, not just what looks good in photos.

What really won me over was the location in Thisio. I mean, you’re literally a stone’s throw from the Ancient Agora, and you can actually see the Acropolis from some of the rooms without paying those crazy “Acropolis view” premiums you get in Plaka. The neighborhood itself has this authentic Athens vibe – there’s a fantastic little taverna around the corner where locals actually eat (not just tourists), and the Thisio metro station is close enough that you can hear the trains if you listen for them, but not so close that it’s annoying. Walking to Monastiraki takes maybe ten minutes through streets that feel genuinely Greek, with those narrow sidewalks and the occasional motorbike parked wherever it fits.

The hotel itself feels more like a renovated apartment building than your typical cookie-cutter place, which I actually loved. My room had these high ceilings and original hardwood floors that creaked just enough to remind you you’re in an old building with character. The AC worked perfectly – and trust me, you’ll need it if you’re visiting in summer. I was there during a heat wave in July and never once felt uncomfortable. The shower pressure was surprisingly good too, which honestly surprised me given how many places in central Athens struggle with water pressure. Check-in was smooth, and the front desk guy gave me this hand-drawn map with his personal recommendations marked on it, including a bakery that opens at 6 AM for fresh tiropita. Small touches like that make such a difference when you’re trying to navigate a new city.

The 8.1 rating makes perfect sense to me – it’s not trying to be the Ritz, but it delivers on everything that actually matters. You’ll sleep well, the location puts you right in the heart of things without the Plaka tourist chaos, and the price point feels fair for what you get. I’d definitely book here again, especially if I wanted to feel more like I was staying in a real Athenian neighborhood rather than a tourist bubble.

  Nice apartment 10-15 minute walk to the entry of the acropolis. Downstairs plenty of restaurants, grocery store and bakery near by. The host was really helpful and responsive

  Very spacious for 6 people, clean and good amenities. Location in the heart of Athens, 10 minutes from Acropol.

  The location is perfect and the house is very spacious and beautiful, with very nice furniture.

  The location was great as it was walking distance to many of the sites, good transport links, good places to eat and shop. The street was beautiful.
  The apartment was comfortable for the price, supermarket and bakery very close so you can use the cooking facilities if you wish.
  Stay was just right for a family of 5.
  
  What could be improved: Just a few suggestions that may help.
  Instructions on recycling and disposal of garbage as we used many glass and plastic bottles drinks during our stay.
  Cooker needs clear marking on temperature we couldn't get it turned off so it had to be unplugged when not in use.
  All in all you are doing well, will definitely recommend this place to others and stay there again.

  The apartment is in a perfect location – the Acropolis just a short walkig distance. The metro station 5 min walking distance. There are some nice restaurants, great coffee places nearby. The apartment has two bedrooms, both of the bedrooms have a nice balcony.
  The kitchen and the bathroom was clean.
  The owner was really helpful, he sent us all the information what we needed.
  I can only recommend this apartment to anyone who want's to visit Athens with friends or family.
