What really won me over, though, were all those little details that show someone’s paying attention. The rooms are thoughtfully laid out – enough outlets where you actually need them, proper lighting for reading, and windows that open (you’d be surprised how many hotels have forgotten about fresh air). The beds are that perfect firmness where you sink in just enough without feeling like you’re being swallowed, and honestly, the linens feel expensive in the best way. I’m usually a light sleeper, but the soundproofing here is excellent – you get that cocoon feeling without being completely cut off from the world outside. The bathrooms deserve a mention too, with rainfall showers that actually have decent water pressure and those thick towels that don’t leave you feeling damp.

I mean, it’s not perfect – the Wi-Fi can be a bit sluggish in the afternoons when everyone’s online, and if you’re the type who needs a full-service spa or three restaurants to choose from, you might want to look elsewhere. But if you’re after a place that just does the fundamentals really, really well, Helen House nails it. The cleaning standards are clearly high (everything smells fresh, not like harsh chemicals), and there’s this attention to maintenance that you notice in small ways – doors that close properly, fixtures that work, that sort of thing. With a 9.5 rating, I wasn’t sure what to expect, but after staying here, I get it. It’s the kind of place that makes you think “yeah, I’d definitely come back” – which, let’s be honest, is exactly what you want from a hotel.
