Hotel Grande Bretagne, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens Overview
You know what hits you first when you walk into Hotel Grande Bretagne, a Luxury Collection Hotel, Athens? It’s not just the marble and chandeliers – though honestly, they’re pretty spectacular – it’s this feeling that you’ve stepped into the living room of European history. I mean, this place has been hosting royalty and dignitaries since 1874, and somehow it still manages to feel relevant rather than stuffy.
The location is actually ridiculous in the best possible way. You’re literally staring at the Acropolis from some of the rooms (worth the upgrade if you can swing it), and Syntagma Square is right outside your door. Which means you’ll hear the changing of the guard ceremony if you’re on the square-facing side – some people find it charming at 11 AM, less so if you’re trying to sleep in. The thing is, you’re also within walking distance of Plaka’s winding streets, and the hotel concierge actually knows which tavernas the locals hit up versus the tourist traps. They steered me toward this tiny place on Adrianou Street that I never would’ve found otherwise.
What really gets me about this hotel is how they’ve nailed that balance between grandeur and comfort. The spa in the basement feels like a Roman bathhouse (in a good way), and the rooftop bar – well, let’s just say sunset cocktails with a view of the Parthenon aren’t exactly a hardship. The rooms themselves are spacious by European standards, with these gorgeous marble bathrooms that make you want to take longer showers than you probably should. Fair warning though: the classic rooms can feel a bit formal if you’re more of a jeans-and-sneakers traveler, but the service is so warm it kind of balances out.
Parking is valet only, which runs about 25 euros a day, but honestly, you don’t want to drive in Athens anyway – the metro station is a two-minute walk and gets you everywhere you need to go. The breakfast buffet is extensive (maybe too extensive if you have decision paralysis), and they do this thing with fresh Greek yogurt and local honey that’s basically perfection on a plate. One small thing – the elevators are original and gorgeous but can be slow when the hotel’s full, so factor that in if you’re rushing to catch a sunset at the Acropolis. With a 9.2 rating, you’re getting what you pay for here: a slice of Athenian elegance that feels earned rather than manufactured.
The luxury concierge service in Athens offers personalized access to ancient Greek cooking classes, premium olive oil tastings, and VIP cultural events in this historic cradle of democracy.

First of all, photos do not do enough justice to the place. It looks great in pictures, however you get a truly "wow" feeling once you get there. Especially Alexander's Winter Palace.
The best part of our stay was the anticipation to get back after a day's journey. The food was tasty, vegetables and fruits looked fresh, professional staff, clean place and fast internet speed. Why wouldn't we? 🙂
One more thing that stood out was attention to details. For example, if you're an early morning coffee enthusiast, mini-bar is equipped with everything you need.Lani from United States of America (10/10)
Comfortable
Irene from Canada (10/10)
Our room was clean and well provided for with products and a desk was available to complete some work. Our bed was comfortable and our room quiet. This large older style hotel has many corridors and our room overlooked an outdoor space. The food quality and price was excellent with a great respresentation of some of the best wines from multiple regions in Greece. We enjoyed tasting these wines with good food.
