You know what caught me off guard about Live in Athens, THISEIO Historic House? The moment you step inside, you’re basically living inside a piece of Athenian history – and I mean that in the best possible way. This isn’t one of those sterile boutique places that just slaps “historic” in the name and calls it a day. The building actually breathes with stories, and you can feel it in the worn marble steps and the way the afternoon light filters through those old windows.

Thiseio itself is honestly one of my favorite neighborhoods in Athens – it’s got this perfect balance where you’re close enough to all the major sites (the Acropolis views from certain spots around here are absolutely unreal), but you’re not drowning in tour groups every time you step outside. The narrow streets have this lived-in quality that a lot of the more touristy areas have lost, and there’s something about walking to a local taverna at night that makes you feel like you’re actually experiencing Athens rather than just visiting it. The metro station is right there too, which – let’s be real – makes life so much easier when you want to explore other parts of the city.

What really sets this place apart, though, is how they’ve managed to preserve the character of the original house while actually making it comfortable to stay in. I’ve been in plenty of “historic” accommodations that feel like museums where you’re afraid to touch anything, but this feels more like staying at a well-traveled friend’s place – if that friend happened to have impeccable taste and a serious appreciation for Greek architecture. The 8.6 rating makes total sense once you’re there; it’s the kind of score that comes from guests who appreciate authenticity over flashy amenities. Sure, you might hear the occasional motorbike rumbling down the cobblestones early in the morning (welcome to Athens), but that’s part of the charm – you’re in a real neighborhood, not some sanitized hotel district. The four-star rating feels right too; it’s polished and comfortable without being precious about it.

  Wonderful location very close to the city center and all touristic attractions yet not on a main route and hidden within the "real" Athens area which enabled us to enjoy in authenticity of this magnificent city life.

  A very nice apartment with spacious rooms and modern kitchen. Very clean! Grocery store is only steps away so I felt at home quickly. Also appreciated the washing machine.
  Location couldn't be better – quiet neighborhood but only minutes from subway, shopping and of course the splendid Apostolou Pavlou. I really liked being tucked away and not directly on the street. The little terrace is a restful place to read a book.
  I look forward to returning to Athens and would happily stay in in this apartment again.
  Most importantly, every interaction before and during my trip with the staff at Live in Athens was a pleasure. Everyone was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating to this solo traveler. Nice to meet Thanos at the main office when I dropped by to pay my balance.
  
  What could be improved: I would suggest some brighter lights at the bathroom sink. Wifi was a bit spotty. I'd also suggest leaving some laundry detergent as I ended up buying a big jug that I only used about 1/4 cup of. Perhaps multi-language washing machine instructions, too?
  These are all minor things, none of which impacted my stay. Suggestions only.

  Lovely apartment in a wonderful location with great ambiance and great restaurants nearby , very comfortable, well equipped. very attentive office, easy and friendly communication with the office. The apartment has beautiful setting, we liked it a lot.
  
  What could be improved: The only thing we didn’t like is that the bus/ truck noise from the street very early in the morning.

  The location was fantastic. We were walking distance to all the main sites and the metro. It was a great apartment for a few days. Beds were comfortable and quiet at night. Air conditioning was superb. The kitchen was handy although we didn't use it.

  Nice apartment in the historical building, within walking distance from the centre of Athens. A lot of good taverns in the quarter around the apartment.

  The location – a short walk from restaurants, bars, and mainline metro to ferry terminal. We were slightly taken aback how close the the apartment was to access the main attractions of Athens. Would have loved to stayed a few extra days as the apartment was in a quite residential street and gave a more local feel to our stay.
  
  What could be improved: We would maybe have enjoyed a different apartment had we been staying longer. There was a courtyard, but not without direct access. This however may have reflected in the price paid.

  Our stay was in February, and what is important, the apartment has heating, which was very comfortable. Dream location, all attractions are accessible on foot. All necessary and useful information was available in the apartment. During our stay was calm and quiet, maybe because it was off season. We lived upstairs, we could use nice terrace, even though it was winter.
