This place sits right in the heart of Thissio, and I mean literally a stone’s throw from the Ancient Agora – you can practically hear the tour groups gathering in the morning (which is either charming or slightly annoying, depending on your caffeine levels).

The thing that really struck me about this penthouse is how it manages to feel both fancy and livable at the same time. The terrace – and honestly, calling it just a terrace doesn’t do it justice – has these sweeping views over the neighborhood’s neoclassical buildings toward the Acropolis. I spent way too many evenings up there with a glass of wine, watching the light change on the Parthenon. The interior design walks this nice line between modern luxury and actually comfortable furniture you want to sink into after a day of walking around ancient ruins. The kitchen is properly equipped too, which matters if you’re like me and get tired of restaurant food after a few days (plus the local markets around Thissio are fantastic for picking up fresh stuff).

What really sold me on the location was discovering that little pedestrian area right below – Apostolou Pavlou street is completely car-free and connects you straight to all the major archaeological sites. I mean, you’re basically living on Athens’ main cultural walking route. The neighborhood itself has this perfect mix of locals grabbing coffee at the traditional kafeneia and tourists figuring out their maps, but it never felt overwhelming or touristy in that suffocating way some central areas can get. Evenings were particularly lovely because you’d hear a mix of languages floating up from the street-side tavernas, and there’s something about Greek conversations and clinking glasses that just sounds like vacation. The only minor thing I’d mention is that weekends can get a bit lively late at night – not obnoxiously so, but if you’re a super light sleeper, maybe pack earplugs. Though honestly, with a 9.4 rating and that kind of prime location, a little neighborhood buzz is pretty much par for the course. It’s the kind of place where you actually feel like you’re living in Athens rather than just visiting it.
