You know what struck me first about Maria’s Maisonette? The way it feels like you’re staying at your most stylish friend’s place — if your friend happened to have impeccable taste and a serious eye for detail. I mean, this isn’t one of those cookie-cutter boutique places that tries too hard. It’s got this effortless charm that actually feels genuine.

The moment you walk in, there’s this warm, lived-in elegance that’s honestly refreshing. The lobby smells faintly of fresh flowers and good coffee, and the staff greets you like they’re genuinely happy you’re there (not the rehearsed hotel smile thing). My check-in was smooth — no awkward waiting around or paperwork drama. The woman at the front desk even remembered I’d mentioned wanting restaurant recommendations when I booked, which was a nice touch. The rooms are where Maria’s really shines though. Everything feels carefully chosen rather than ordered from some hotel catalog — the linens are that perfect weight where you know they’re quality without being fussy, and the lighting actually makes sense for both reading and getting ready. I particularly loved the little seating area by the window; it’s one of those spots where you find yourself lingering with your morning coffee longer than planned.

What really sets this place apart is the attention to those details that matter when you’re actually living somewhere for a few days. The bathroom has proper counter space (you’d be amazed how many places skimp on this), the closet has enough hangers, and there are outlets where you actually need them. The neighborhood’s pretty quiet in the evenings, so you’re not dealing with street noise, but it livens up nicely during the day. I found myself taking different walking routes each morning just to explore — there’s something new to notice around every corner. Honestly, by day three I felt like I had my own little routine, which is exactly what you want from a good stay. The 9.6 rating makes total sense once you’ve been there; it’s not trying to be the flashiest place in town, but everything it does, it does really well. If you’re looking for somewhere that feels more like a home base than a hotel room, Maria’s gets it right.

  It felt like we were walking into an oasis of comfort. There wasn’t anything that hasn’t been thought of. Excellent host who was super helpful, fabulous beds, air conditioning, lots of everything- couldn’t be happier.
  
  What could be improved: Only one slight difficulty – our taxi driver struggled to find it but it was after midnight and everyone was tired. Wonder if I have missed What3words? Could have helped but this is the only smallest issue.

  The house is amazing also considering the price. Seriously, you don’t usually get that standard in this price range.
  
  There is AC and smart TVs in every bedroom, they are almost identical so you won’t have to argue on who gets which room. We loved the big balcony and the roof. The house is fully equipped in everything you need, including washing mashine, dishwasher, hair dryer, basic kitchen stuff like olive oil, salt or pepper, wine glasses and also an espresso mashine with tasty coffee. There are two bathrooms, both include spacious showers.
  
  The metro station is 5 minutes away, as well as Lidl and other smaller shops and markets.
  
  The host was helpful and kind, any misunderstandings were resolved for our benefit. We even were offered one free takeaway lunch.
  Would for sure come there again.
  
  What could be improved: As other mentioned, the neighborhood might not be ideal for some, but it didn’t bother us. However I wouldn’t feel very safe walking around there at night on my own.
  
  Don’t expect incredible window view if that’s something you’re looking for.

  Excellent property and had everything we required for our stay in Athens.

  The place was lovely and spacious. The beds were comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped, we some lovely meals on the balcony. Very easy to get to, only 5 minutes from the nearest metro stop and to lidl. Had everything we needed and at a great price. The owner George was very helpful and answered any questions we had, and Christina was there to meet us on arrival. We had a wonderful stay; highly recommended!
  
  What could be improved: In the middle room, the air-con didn't work all the time, but was fine everywhere else in the house, so it didn't bother us too much. Not the best view, but standard for most of Athens would say.
