You know what caught me off guard about Master Plaka? It’s how they’ve managed to nail that sweet spot between authentic Greek character and actual comfort – something a lot of places in this area honestly struggle with. When I first walked up, I’ll admit I was a bit skeptical because the entrance is pretty understated, almost easy to miss if you’re not looking for it. But that’s actually part of its charm.

The location is just brilliant – you’re right in the heart of Plaka without being stuck on one of those tourist-packed main drags where you can’t sleep past 7 AM. I mean, you’re still going to hear some street life (it’s Athens, after all), but it’s more like the gentle hum of locals going about their day rather than groups of tourists stumbling back from tavernas at 2 AM. What really impressed me was how the staff seemed to actually know the neighborhood – not just the obvious stuff like “the Acropolis is that way,” but genuine recommendations for where to grab proper coffee in the morning or which bakery has the best spanakopita. The front desk guy told me about this tiny family-run place around the corner that I never would’ve found otherwise, and honestly, it ended up being one of my favorite discoveries.

The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully put together rather than just decorated by committee. There’s this nice balance of traditional touches – some beautiful tilework in the bathrooms, wooden shutters that actually work – mixed with modern necessities that you don’t really notice until they’re missing elsewhere. The air conditioning was quiet and effective (crucial in summer), and the beds were genuinely comfortable, not just hotel-acceptable. I particularly loved the little balcony in my room – nothing fancy, but perfect for morning coffee while watching the neighborhood wake up. The whole place has this relaxed, lived-in quality that makes you feel more like you’re staying at a well-appointed friend’s place rather than just another hotel room. With a 9.5 rating, you’d expect things to be pretty polished, and they are, but not in that sterile, overly precious way that can make you afraid to actually use anything. It’s the kind of place where you can tell they’ve thought about what travelers actually need – good water pressure, reliable wifi, decent lighting for reading – rather than just what looks impressive in photos.

Travelers should reserve a hotel in Athens at least two months ahead for major events like cultural festivals, ensuring the best rates and prime locations near ancient attractions.

  No breakfast offered but they did leave us a bottle of wine, coffee and tea. We just loved the modern apartment style and the ease of coming and going without any attendants. My wife's favorite of the three places we stayed at in Greece. Location in the Plaka was key for us.

  Really a very pleasant stay. Arrived very early (10 am) for a 3pm check in time. Baggage stored and delivered to apartment, which was ready at 1pm.
  Apartment was in new condition, very clean, modern. Very quiet. 3rd floor studio with balcony had a large, very private balcony. Full kitchen , including frig, microwave, cutlery, dishes, etc. Small elevator to 3rd floor. Staff were very friendly and available as needed through their app and in person. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Location right on the edge of the Plaka, with shops and restaurants right outside of the apartment.

  The location is exceptional and the place is absolutely perfect. I love the key code entry system. The management is very responsive and they are running a great place which is absolutely worth every penny. It’s the perfect home away from home in Athens.

  In Plaka, right at the heart of all the important cultural places to discover plus restaurants, bars and coffee shops. The Location is just perfect.
  
  What could be improved: I personally didn’t like the lift as it was tiny (only one person could go in with luggage) so I used the stairs everyday as I felt uncomfortable using the it.
