Speaking of which – and this is something you won’t find in guidebooks – there’s this little bakery about two blocks down that opens ridiculously early, around 5:30 AM, and the smell of fresh bread drifts up through the neighborhood. I found myself waking up to it every morning, which beats any alarm clock.

What really struck me about staying here is how you’re genuinely in the heart of things without feeling like you’re in a tourist trap. Sure, you’re walking distance from all the major sites – the Ancient Agora is maybe a ten-minute stroll, and you can practically roll out of bed and be at the Acropolis Museum – but you’re also on streets where actual Athenians are going about their daily lives. There’s a taverna around the corner where I never heard English spoken, just locals arguing passionately about football over their coffee. The building itself has that lived-in quality that comes with centuries of history, and while that means things aren’t perfectly modern (the shower pressure is decent but not amazing), it also means you’re staying somewhere with genuine soul. The 9.1 rating makes perfect sense once you’re here – this isn’t about fancy amenities or concierge service, it’s about waking up to one of the world’s most iconic views and feeling like you’ve got a real foothold in this incredible city, even if just for a few days.

  Had a great time staying in this apartment. Very clean, very comfortable and great location. Everything was exactly as shown in the pictures, spacious rooms and comfortable beds.   Very nicely decorated large 3 bed appartement near the restaurants area of Athens. Not far from acropolis and main visiting sites. We enjoyed our stay there. There is a bakery/cafe downstairs for coffee and breakfast in the morning.
  
  What could be improved: Do not walk from central train station to the apartment. The area between the two is not walkable (no footpath for some of way), is dirty and feel unsafe. The host had advised to take the metro (either directly from airport or from central train station) until acropolis stop or take taxi. We should have listened to her! The area from metro stop is really lovely.
