I’ll be honest – when I first heard about xenodocheio Milos, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The name itself tells you something (xenodocheio literally means “guesthouse” in Greek), but this place is way more sophisticated than that humble term suggests. Actually, it’s one of those rare finds where the 9.3 rating isn’t just inflated review nonsense – people genuinely love staying here, and after spending time there myself, I totally get why.

What strikes you immediately is how they’ve managed to feel both luxurious and authentically Greek without trying too hard. You know how some five-star places can feel a bit sterile? Not here. The design has this beautiful minimalist aesthetic that actually complements Milos’s volcanic landscape rather than competing with it. I mean, the island itself is already pretty dramatic with those white cliffs and turquoise waters, so it’s smart that they didn’t go overboard with flashy decor. The rooms have this lovely flow – lots of natural light, local stone details, and honestly some of the most comfortable beds I’ve encountered in the Greek islands. There’s something about the linens that just feels expensive in the best way.

The service is where things really shine though. Staff here seem to actually know the island inside and out, not just the tourist highlights everyone hits. They pointed me toward this tiny beach that’s basically impossible to find without local knowledge – no crowds, just incredible swimming. Check-in was smooth (they had my room ready early, which never happens), and they’re genuinely helpful with restaurant recommendations that go beyond the obvious choices. The breakfast spread is pretty impressive too, with local specialties alongside the standard Mediterranean fare. I particularly loved their take on traditional Milos cheese pies – definitely not something you’ll find at chain hotels. Parking isn’t an issue if you’ve rented a car, which you absolutely should on Milos since the best beaches require a bit of driving on those winding coastal roads. The location works well as a base for exploring – close enough to Adamas for dinner but far enough that you’re not dealing with port noise or crowds. September felt perfect timing-wise, though I imagine July and August get pretty busy given how special this place is.
