Xenophon Hotel Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to the Xenophon Hotel, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from a 4-star place with a 7.6 rating. You know how those mid-range ratings can go either way, right? But after spending a few nights there, I actually get why it lands right in that sweet spot. It’s one of those hotels that doesn’t try to be something it’s not, and there’s something refreshing about that approach.
The lobby hits you with this sort of understated elegance – nothing too flashy, but the marble floors have this subtle veining that catches the light just right, and honestly, the staff at check-in knew their stuff without being overly formal about it. I mean, they actually remembered my name the next morning, which doesn’t always happen at places twice the price. The rooms themselves are what I’d call thoughtfully designed rather than luxurious. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m pretty picky about mattresses), and the bathroom had one of those rainfall showerheads that actually produces decent water pressure – you’d be surprised how often hotels mess that up. There’s a small balcony in most rooms that overlooks… well, it’s not a scenic vista, but you get some decent people-watching if you’re into that sort of thing.
What really won me over was the attention to those little details that show someone’s actually thinking about the guest experience. The blackout curtains work properly, the AC doesn’t sound like a freight train, and – this might sound weird – but the lighting is actually practical for reading or working on your laptop. The hotel restaurant serves solid food without trying to be too clever about it, and their coffee is legitimately good, not that bitter hotel lobby stuff. Parking was straightforward too, which saved me the usual urban hotel headache of circling blocks looking for a spot. Look, the Xenophon isn’t going to wow you with over-the-top amenities or make you feel like royalty, but it delivers exactly what a good 4-star should: comfort, reliability, and service that feels genuine rather than scripted. If you’re looking for Instagram-worthy luxury, this probably isn’t your place. But if you want somewhere that feels like a solid, dependable home base without breaking the bank, it’s actually a pretty smart choice.
Hotels in Athens offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this ancient metropolis, with easy access to world-class museums, archaeological sites, and bustling markets.

Budget option and Convenient to ring road system. Breakfast has a reasonable variety though little fruit available.
Zornitsa from Bulgaria (6/10)
The hotel is well located, close to M1, so it is 20 min from Monastiraki station. The rooms are rather comfortable, with nice beds.
Ahmad from Canada (7/10)
The rooms on second floor were renovated perfectly. Unfortunately on our room (222) both the shower and the sink in the bath was installed very low, you need to bend to use it.
Debra from United States of America (8/10)
Interesting decor – sleek, art nouveau (?) style on main floor. Nice breakfast buffet included. Room was clean. Front desk personnel were helpful with questions.
Stephen from United Kingdom (7/10)
There was always something we could eat for breakfast, nice traditional pastries and feta. Bread was lovely especially with the honey.
