Xenophon Hotel Overview

First Impressions

Walking into Xenophon Hotel, you immediately sense this is a place that knows its regulars — and honestly, that tells you something right there. The four-star property has this comfortable, lived-in elegance that feels more genuine than flashy. It’s the kind of hotel where the staff actually remembers your name by day two, which probably explains why so many guests keep coming back. The lobby strikes that sweet spot between professional and welcoming, with enough character to feel distinctly Greek without going overboard on the tourist-trap aesthetics.

Location & Getting Around

Here’s what I love about the Acharnon location — you’re properly in Athens, not stuck in some sterile hotel district. Sure, it’s not right in the heart of Plaka, but that actually works in your favor. The neighborhood has real life happening around it, with local cafes and shops that aren’t just there for tourists. Getting to the major sites is straightforward enough, and honestly, having free private parking in Athens is like striking gold. Most hotels in the city center will charge you through the nose for parking, if they have it at all.

The Room Experience

The rooms feel thoughtfully designed rather than cookie-cutter corporate. Nothing groundbreaking, but everything works properly — which, you know, isn’t always a given. The beds are genuinely comfortable (I’m picky about this), and the bathrooms are well-maintained with decent water pressure. What struck me most was the attention to small details — proper reading lights, enough outlets where you actually need them, and blackout curtains that actually block out light. It’s clear they’ve listened to guest feedback over the years and made adjustments accordingly.

Breakfast & Dining

The breakfast setup is where Xenophon Hotel really shows its understanding of what travelers want. They offer both continental and buffet options, which gives you flexibility depending on whether you’re rushing out to catch a morning tour or planning a leisurely start. The buffet has a good mix of international basics and Greek specialties — proper Greek yogurt with honey, fresh bread, and coffee that doesn’t taste like it’s been sitting around since yesterday. I mean, it’s not going to change your life, but it sets you up well for a day of exploring Athens.

Why Guests Love It

There’s something to be said for a hotel that earns genuine loyalty from its guests, and the repeat visitor rate here speaks volumes. Couples particularly seem drawn to the place — maybe it’s the reliable comfort level or the fact that you can actually relax here without feeling like you’re missing out on the “real” Athens experience. The staff strikes that perfect balance of being helpful without hovering, and the whole operation feels like it’s run by people who actually care about hospitality rather than just going through the motions. It’s not the fanciest place in the city, but sometimes what you really want is a hotel that simply does everything well.

Hotels in Athens offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this ancient metropolis, with easy access to world-class museums, archaeological sites, and bustling markets.

The room was bigger than expected with a balcony. I also liked the walk in shower and the cleanliness of both room and bathroom.

  • Adrian from Australia (6/10)

Budget option and Convenient to ring road system. Breakfast has a reasonable variety though little fruit available.

  • Zornitsa from Bulgaria (6/10)

The hotel is well located, close to M1, so it is 20 min from Monastiraki station. The rooms are rather comfortable, with nice beds.

  • Ahmad from Canada (7/10)

The rooms on second floor were renovated perfectly. Unfortunately on our room (222) both the shower and the sink in the bath was installed very low, you need to bend to use it.

  • Debra from United States of America (8/10)

Interesting decor – sleek, art nouveau (?) style on main floor. Nice breakfast buffet included. Room was clean. Front desk personnel were helpful with questions.

  • Stephen from United Kingdom (7/10)

There was always something we could eat for breakfast, nice traditional pastries and feta. Bread was lovely especially with the honey.
