Acropolis Neoclassical Mansion by YHA Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard about the Acropolis Neoclassical Mansion by YHA, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. I mean, YHA usually makes me think of budget hostels with bunk beds, but this place? It’s actually something completely different, and I’m kind of obsessed with it.
The building itself is gorgeous – you know those grand neoclassical facades you see scattered around Athens that make you stop and stare? That’s exactly what this is, but turned into accommodation that somehow manages to feel both historic and comfortable. The moment you walk in, there’s this immediate sense that you’re staying somewhere with actual character, not just another cookie-cutter hotel. The high ceilings and original architectural details are still intact (thank goodness), and they’ve done this really thoughtful job of updating everything without losing that old-world charm. You’ll find yourself taking photos of the interior just because it’s so photogenic – the kind of place that makes your friends back home a little jealous when they see your Instagram stories.
What really won me over, though, is how they’ve managed to balance the grandeur with genuine comfort. The rooms have this sophisticated feel without being stuffy, and honestly, the beds are way better than you’d expect. I actually slept incredibly well, which doesn’t always happen when I’m traveling. The staff genuinely knows their stuff too – not just about the hotel, but about Athens itself. They gave me restaurant recommendations that were spot-on and helped me figure out the best times to visit different sites to avoid the worst crowds. With an 8.6 rating, you can tell other travelers have had similar experiences, and that 4-star rating feels accurate – it’s polished and well-run without being pretentious about it.
The location is another thing entirely – you’re close enough to the Acropolis that you can actually walk there (and I mean a pleasant walk, not a trek), but you’re not stuck in the middle of the tourist chaos. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel where you’ll see locals going about their daily routines, which I always prefer over areas that exist purely for visitors. There are these little tavernas nearby that you’d never find unless you were staying in the area, and the morning coffee culture around there is something else – you’ll want to build in extra time just to sit and people-watch. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving (this is Athens, after all), but most people won’t need a car anyway since you’re well-connected to everything you’d want to see. It’s the kind of place where you feel like you’re experiencing Athens rather than just passing through it.
Athens’s apartments offer spacious accommodations with classical charm, perfect for families wanting to experience daily life in this historically significant Greek capital.

A lovely spacious apartment close to the Acropolis.

Beautiful house with a tiny garden
What could be improved: Location wasn’t great, as there wasn’t much to do around, but not dangerous at allM from Netherlands – 20 September 2024 (9/10)
Nice cozy appartement with great shower and nice little garden, close to acropolis and underground
What could be improved: NothingRaydenne from United States – 11 August 2024 (8/10)
Excellent location near the Acropolis, only a 10 minute walk. Grocery store < 5 minute walk, restaurants in area also. Used washing machine, so nice touch.
What could be improved: A/C in bedroom dripped the entire 3 days. I emptied a large pot at least 3 times. TV never worked.Clifford from Canada – 27 July 2024 (8/10)
Super close to all of the main attractions in Athens.
Very hot in July, but we walked on the shaded side of the sidewalk to the new Acropolis museum in under 15 mins.
AC in the small bedroom was pumping out a lot of cold air…great unit 😀
What could be improved: We had an ant problem when we arrived.. We notified them and they immediately resolved while we went on a tour. They cleaned up and left ant spray for us.
Ants in the kitchen and in the bathroom.Theo from Australia – 18 July 2024 (8/10)
Nice apartment, clean, secure, close to all facilities. Central location, close to Acropolis, Acropolis meseum, Plaka 10min walking, close to transport, metro train if dont want to walk as much.

This was a beautiful oasis just blocks from the Acropolis, museum and Plaka. Had all we needed and was in a quiet area, though right in the heart of Athens. Cafes, supermarkets, bakeries all close by. Lots of space, all you'd need to cook, washing machine, outdoor balcony and seating area and totally secure.

We are a family with two parents, two kids and a baby and the apartment was suited perfectly perfectly for our needs for 7 day vacation.
Spotless clean apartment with fully equipped kitchen, located on a quiet street yet close enough to walk to the Acropolis and the Center. Many shops, bakery, supermarkets and everything you need within 3 min walk.
The property also has a small nice patio to enjoy the morning coffee.
Very friendly, attentive staff who were kind enough to respond immediately to our every need such as extra bed sheets and a big taxi to the airport (thank you so much dear Maria)! We felt confident and cared for.
Also the beds were comfortable, good linen and towels. The stay in the property really made our holiday awesome! I wholeheartedly recommend staying here.
What could be improved: The entrance from the gate to the flat is kinda narrow so we had to fold the baby stroller going in and out of the house. But we managed and it was worth it.William from United States – 17 September 2023 (9/10)
Great location near the Acropolis. Quiet neighborhood. Very comfortable king size beds.
What could be improved: Front door needs to be locked to fully close. Otherwise door can blow open.Bess from Canada – 26 August 2023 (9/10)
Excellent location, could walk to all major tourist attractions easily. Five minute walk to a bakery and cafeteria, 10-15 minutes to the Acropolis. Very clean and loved having our own kitchen and washing machine. Loved the character of the building as well, and the staff was very organized and responsive.
What could be improved: Bathtub/shower was quite small. But we managed….even my larger husband.
