Alkima Athens Hotel Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first walked into Alkima Athens Hotel, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like another mid-range business hotel. But you know what? Sometimes the places that don’t try too hard to impress you end up being exactly what you need. This 4-star spot has this understated confidence about it, like it knows it’s doing things right without needing to shout about it. The lobby has that clean, modern Greek aesthetic – think warm marble and subtle lighting – but it doesn’t feel sterile like some of these newer places do.

What really won me over was how the staff actually seemed to care about getting the details right. Check-in was smooth (I mean, it should be, but you’d be surprised how many places mess this up), and the front desk guy gave me genuinely useful tips about avoiding the tourist traps nearby. The rooms are well thought out – not huge, but everything’s where it should be, and the beds are actually comfortable, which honestly can be hit or miss in Athens hotels. The shower pressure is solid too, which might sound like a small thing, but after a day of walking around Greek ruins in summer heat, trust me, it matters. I stayed on the fifth floor and barely heard any street noise, which is pretty impressive considering how lively Athens can get, especially during those late summer evenings when everyone’s out until midnight.

The location works really well if you want to feel like you’re staying somewhere locals might actually go, rather than being stuck in the obvious tourist bubble. You’re close enough to the major sites that you can walk to most places (though honestly, the metro is so easy here), but far enough from Syntagma Square that you won’t be dodging tour groups every time you step outside. There’s this great little bakery about two blocks away that opens early – I stumbled across it on my second morning and ended up going back every day for their spanakopita. The hotel’s breakfast is decent, but sometimes you want to get out and see how the locals start their day, you know? With a 9.3 rating, clearly other people have figured out what I did – that sometimes the best places are the ones that focus on doing the basics exceptionally well rather than trying to be everything to everyone.

Reviews of Alkima Athens Hotel

  • Alex from Israel (10/10)

The personnel was extremely nice and attentive, we arrived very late at night and the check in was very fast and efficient. The room was beautifully designed, very clean, the only thing was the bed, tho the mattress was ok and king size, it has a buit in ramp which makes it a little difficult to get in and out of. But still the room was very cosy, great temperature control, lovely bathroom!

  • John from United Kingdom (10/10)

Friendly staff, great room and breakfast

  • Rasmus-rai from Estonia (10/10)

Very nice boutique hotel in a small and quiet street but close to main attractions like Monastiraki square, Plaka district, Acropolis, central fish and meat market etc. Metro station and restaurants are just 300 m away. Superb roof top terrace with a small pool (not heated) open 24/7 offering breathtaking views to Acropolis at night. Staff all very nice and super friendly. Breakfast can be ordered every day into the room or to terrace.
Thanks for taking care of us! We hope to return.

  • Feray from Turkey (9/10)

The hotel and the room was very clean and nicely designed. It was full when we stayed but we felt like we were the only ones in the hotel. And the location. It was the close to all the places that I’d marked to visit.

  • Kerem from Turkey (9/10)

The hotel and rooms are very clean, and the staff is both helpful and approachable. Breakfast offers a wide variety of options, with guests pre-selecting their choices the night before. You can enjoy your meal in your preferred setting—on the rooftop, in the lobby, or in your room. The hotel’s location is excellent, just a 4-minute walk from Psyrri Square and 7 minutes from the Monastiraki metro station. It’s conveniently close to popular tourist attractions while being tucked away in a quiet area.

  • Ahmet from Turkey (8/10)

Very clean and cozy small hotel, great hospitality from the Hotel Staff

  • Alec from United Kingdom (9/10)

The staff were first class, very friendly, informative and helpful.
The rooms were comfortable and quiet.
The location was very good for sightseeing.

  • Tiit from Estonia (10/10)

The personell in Alkima was probably the best I've ever encountered in any hotels ever. These kind of friendliness and helpfulness is hard to come by and I was superiorly suprised when the extremely high bar set by the first receptionist was carried on by both subsequent ones. Rooftop view to Akropolis and having breakfast on the the said rooftop was also relatively cool.

  • Pekka from Germany (10/10)

Location. Modern boutique hotel with good decor.
Everything was as mentioned in booking.com web site.

  • Anna from Sweden (10/10)

Good location, friendly atmosphere and helpful staff.
