AthensWas Design Hotel Overview
When I first walked into AthensWas Design Hotel, I honestly wasn’t prepared for how thoughtfully every single detail had been considered. You know those places where you can tell someone actually cared about the guest experience rather than just filling rooms? This is one of those – and with a 9.1 rating, I’m clearly not the only one who noticed.
The design aesthetic here is what I’d call “elevated minimalism” – clean lines and contemporary touches, but warm enough that you don’t feel like you’re sleeping in a museum. The lobby has this incredible natural light that floods in during the day, and the staff actually remembers your name after checking in (which, let’s be honest, doesn’t happen everywhere). What really caught my attention was how quiet the rooms are, even though you’re right in the heart of Athens. I mean, Greek cities aren’t exactly known for their hushed tones, so whoever handled the soundproofing here deserves some serious credit. The bathrooms are spacious – and I’m talking actually spacious, not “spacious for Europe” spacious – with rainfall showers that have proper water pressure.
Here’s what I really appreciate about staying here: they’ve managed to capture that boutique hotel intimacy while still delivering five-star service standards. The concierge team knows their stuff beyond the typical tourist spots – they pointed me toward this incredible local taverna that I never would have found otherwise, tucked away in a neighborhood where you won’t hear a word of English. Check-in was seamless (no waiting around with your luggage while they “prepare your room“), and they actually have proper blackout curtains, which sounds minor until you’re trying to sleep past sunrise. The location puts you within walking distance of the major archaeological sites, but you’re also close enough to the livelier districts that you can easily grab dinner or drinks without needing a taxi. Honestly, the only minor thing I’d mention is that the elevators are on the smaller side – not a problem unless you’re traveling with massive suitcases and three other people. But overall? This place gets the balance right between modern comfort and authentic Athens character, which isn’t always easy to pull off in a city where so many hotels feel either too sterile or trying way too hard to be “authentic.”
The concierge service in Athens can arrange exclusive Acropolis after-hours tours, secure private archaeological site visits, and organize trips to nearby Delphi and the picturesque Greek islands.

We liked almost everything but the level is not for a five star hotel!
The level is very good for the level of a 4 star hotel.Vasileios from Greece (10/10)
Perfect location in the most beautiful area of Athens city centre plus an underground station just a step away. Very nice comfy and spacious room. Excellent breakfast with a wonderful Acropolis view. Fantastic staff, helpful polite and friendly. In conclusion a great place to stay. It was our 2nd stay and it will be our choice again in our future visits in Athens.
