Bang in Kolonaki by Athenian Homes Overview

You know what struck me first about Bang in Kolonaki by Athenian Homes? The name actually makes sense once you’re there – it really is smack dab in the heart of Kolonaki, and I mean that in the best possible way. This isn’t one of those places that claims to be “in the center” when you’re actually hiking twenty minutes to get anywhere decent.

I’ll be honest, when I first saw it was a 4-star property, I wasn’t expecting much – Athens has this weird thing where star ratings don’t always translate to what you’d expect. But walking into this place, there’s something genuinely welcoming about it that catches you off guard. The whole setup feels more like staying at a well-designed apartment than your typical hotel, which makes sense given it’s run by Athenian Homes. They’ve really nailed that “local living” vibe without making you feel like you’re roughing it. The spaces have this clean, modern Greek aesthetic – not the white-and-blue tourist trap stuff, but actually contemporary Athens style that locals would recognize.

What I really appreciate is how they’ve positioned themselves in Kolonaki. You’re literally steps from Skoufa Street with all its little cafes where Athenians actually hang out (not just tourists), and you can easily walk to those tiny galleries tucked between designer shops that most people never find. The whole Kolonaki triangle is right there – you know, that area where you can grab proper coffee in the morning, browse books at Politeia, then end up at a wine bar that doesn’t have English menus because it doesn’t need them. I mean, you’re also close enough to Syntagma that you can walk there, but far enough away that you’re not dealing with all that chaos every time you step outside.

Honestly, the 7.9 rating feels about right – it’s solid without being flashy. The rooms are thoughtfully designed, everything works like it should, and there’s this attention to detail that suggests someone actually cares about the guest experience. What I found refreshing was how the staff seemed to know the neighborhood genuinely well. When I asked about finding a specific type of restaurant, I got real recommendations, not just the tourist spots everyone suggests. They pointed me toward this little taverna tucked behind the Benaki Museum that I never would have found otherwise.

The only thing worth mentioning is that Kolonaki can get pretty lively, especially on weekend evenings when the local crowd is out – but that’s part of the charm, really. If you want complete silence, maybe look elsewhere, but if you want to feel like you’re actually experiencing Athens rather than just visiting it, the energy is perfect. Plus, the morning quiet when you’re having coffee and watching the neighborhood wake up? That’s the kind of moment that makes you understand why people fall in love with this city.

Exploring Athens offers visitors an unforgettable journey through the birthplace of democracy, from its iconic Parthenon to its vibrant neighborhoods and world-renowned archaeological treasures.

Reviews of Bang in Kolonaki by Athenian Homes

  • Valerie from United States – 28 October 2024 (7/10)

Location, clean, good communication from owner/manager re entry and location of key

What could be improved: No place to hang stuff in bath and no electrical outlet in bath for hairdryer so I had to dry my hair in the kitchen with no mirror.

Also nearly on ground level so leaving blind up was a non-starter. And the sliding door lock to the tiny balcony didn’t lock – easily fixable.

  • Ilaria from Italy – 12 October 2024 (8/10)

Perfect location for a large bedroom with tiny kitchen and bathroom. The owner very fast in answering. I asked for a late check out that was not granted. Instead they asked me to inform them if I was leaving before 11 am (checkout time). In the flat there were soaps, shampoo, conditioner, some tea bags and coffee capsules.

What could be improved: Kitchen and bathroom would benefit from some renovations. The flat was pretty noisy in the morning due to some ongoing works on the adjacent road.

  • Minting from China – 30 September 2024 (9/10)

    Nice place

  • Ioannis from Slovakia – 30 August 2024 (7/10)

    Nicely decorated and clean room
Strategic location to explore the city of Athens

What could be improved: Extremely noisy A/C that doesn’t really cool down the space.
The building is old and has very bad isolation. Therefore when people walk upstairs you hear their steps like horses.
    Bathroom has no real ventilation.
The flat is on an elevated ground floor and everybody can see from outside inside the bedroom if you have open windows/curtains etc

  • Philiaz from Australia – 9 November 2023 (8/10)

The property was easy to find and access. It was very clean and comfortable offering everything I needed for my short stay. I also found the hosts to be very communicative and responsive.
The location was fantastic and I tried to book again for my departure but it wasnt available!
Highly recommended for a short and central stay.

What could be improved: For an old Athenian building which I prefer, I could find few faults, which I expected to find, but this did not effect my stay. I thought the kitchen and bathroom needed a fan and I think the electrical wiring is a little precarious and needs caution.
Some may find this place a little noisy during the day, but this is to be expected in such a central location and it really didn't bother me at all

  • Diane from United States – 4 October 2023 (9/10)

Great neighborhood. Walking distance to all the sights. I liked having a cute kitchen!

What could be improved: Nothing – all was good!

  • Nina from United Arab Emirates – 18 September 2023 (8/10)

The apartment was very clean and well located

What could be improved: The water in the bathroom was cold

  • Thomas from United Kingdom – 2 August 2023 (8/10)

    Location, comfortable bed.

What could be improved: Kitchen is very basic

  • Glenn from Australia – 4 July 2023 (9/10)

It was our 3rd time staying in Athens and we wished we stayed here the prior 2 times. Great location with good quality restaurants and coffee nearby. Cleaner and nicer streets than other areas of Athens.

The room was good for our stay. We didn't use the kitchen because we ordered food from restaurant.

What could be improved: The kitchen is small if you want to cook yourself.

  • Sven from Belgium – 18 June 2023 (8/10)

    excellent bed, great location

What could be improved: an extra pillow would have been nice
