Your “Home Away from Home” – Phillopapou Hill overview
I’ll be honest – when I first heard the name Your “Home Away from Home” – Phillopapou Hill, I wasn’t sure what to expect. Sometimes these overly cozy names can be a red flag, you know? But this place actually delivers on that promise in ways I didn’t anticipate. Nestled on the slopes of Philopappos Hill (yes, they spell it slightly differently than the actual hill, but whatever), this 4-star gem sits in one of Athens‘ most underrated neighborhoods. You’re literally a ten-minute walk from the Acropolis, but here’s the thing most tourists don’t realize – you get incredible sunset views of the Parthenon without dealing with the crowds up there.
The location is honestly brilliant if you know Athens at all. You’re close enough to hear the distant hum from Dionysiou Areopagitou street during the day, but once evening hits, it gets surprisingly peaceful. I mean, you’ll still catch the occasional scooter zipping by – this is Athens after all – but it’s nothing like staying near Monastiraki or Plaka where the party goes until 3 AM. The walk to the National Observatory is basically next door, and if you’re into that sort of thing, the hiking trails up Philopappos Hill start right from the hotel’s back entrance. I discovered this completely by accident on my second morning when I was looking for a quiet spot to drink coffee.
What really won me over, though, was how the staff seemed to genuinely care about making the place feel… well, homey. The front desk guy (I think his name was Dimitris?) remembered that I liked my coffee strong and would have it ready before I even asked. Small touch, but it matters when you’re jet-lagged and trying to navigate a new city. The rooms aren’t massive – honestly, this isn’t the kind of place where you’ll be hosting parties – but they’re thoughtfully designed with these lovely little balconies that catch the morning light perfectly. Mine overlooked a quiet residential street lined with orange trees, and I actually found myself spending more time there than I’d planned just watching the neighborhood wake up.
The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’ve stayed here a few days. It’s not trying to be fancy or impress you with marble lobbies and gold fixtures. Instead, it nails all the basics really well – the Wi-Fi actually works everywhere, the air conditioning doesn’t sound like a helicopter, and the shower has proper water pressure (trust me, this isn’t guaranteed in Athens). Plus, they’ve got this small terrace area where they serve breakfast that feels more like eating at a friend’s place than a hotel dining room. The Greek yogurt with local honey situation alone is worth the stay.
If you’re the type who needs to be right in the thick of tourist central, this might feel a bit removed. But honestly? That’s exactly why I’d come back. You get the authentic Athens experience – quiet mornings, neighborhood bakeries, actual Greek families as neighbors – while still being close enough to hit all the major sites without breaking a sweat.

Apartment is accessible by a small lift, after a few stairs from the street. Very clean and well stocked if you want to prepare simple meals. AC works very well and beds are very comfortable. Hand held shower, tub style, but no stopper for tub. Turn right when you come out or building and you will run into numerous local taverns for a great selection of food and drinks. Bus stop is in same direction. Be careful with the taxis trying to con you into paying more than is correct. Only use taxi’s that turn meter on!
Venetia
Walkable location. Friendly hosts that reply quickly. Spacious, homey, cozy, clean and stylish flat. Good for friends/groups. Nice neighbourhood with many bars and restaurants.

Beautifully decorated, tranquil and spacious apartment on a leafy street. Amazing restaurant on the corner. We loved our time here and enjoyed time on the balcony watching Athens life go by. Every amenity and attraction nearby.
