Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Beautiful Apartment at Plaka, I thought the name was a bit on-the-nose. But you know what? Sometimes places live up to their bold claims, and this 4-star spot absolutely does.

The thing about staying in Plaka is that you’re basically camping out in Athens‘ postcard neighborhood – those narrow cobblestone streets that wind around the Acropolis like they’re hugging it. I mean, you can literally hear the tour groups shuffling past in the morning (which is actually kind of charming, though maybe not if you’re a super light sleeper). What I loved about this particular apartment is how it manages to feel tucked away from all that tourist energy while still being right in the thick of things. You’ll step out your door and within maybe two minutes – I’m not exaggerating – you’re at one of those tiny tavernas where the owner’s grandmother is still making the dolmades.

The apartment itself hits that sweet spot between authentic Greek character and having the modern stuff you actually need. The 9.2 rating makes total sense once you’re there – everything just works, which honestly can be hit-or-miss in this part of the city. The Wi-Fi is solid (tested it extensively while working from the little balcony), and there’s proper air conditioning, which trust me, you’ll appreciate if you’re visiting between June and September. I particularly appreciated the kitchen setup because eating out for every meal in Plaka will absolutely wreck your budget, and sometimes you just want to grab some of those incredible tomatoes from the morning market on Monastiraki and make a simple Greek salad. The bathroom has one of those rainfall showerheads that actually has decent pressure – small detail, but it matters after a day of climbing around the Acropolis ruins.

What really sold me on this place, though, was the location knowledge you get just by staying there. Your host (assuming they’re still the same person) actually grew up in the neighborhood and will casually mention things like which bakery opens earliest or how to avoid the crowds at the Ancient Agora by taking this one particular side street. There’s something about waking up and having coffee while looking out at those terracotta rooftops with the Parthenon just sort of looming there in the background – it never gets old, even after a week. The evenings are particularly magical because as the day-trippers head back to their hotels in other parts of the city, Plaka transforms into this intimate neighborhood again where you can actually hear conversations instead of just tourist chatter. Fair warning though – if you’re here during peak season, those charming narrow streets can feel pretty claustrophobic during the day, but honestly, that’s when you should be out exploring anyway.
